i am actually asking him if all lenses or which ones have been tested. 169 euro. not cheap but you can most probably forget that mirror-hacking.

Looking for info on compatability of the Zuiko 21 3.5 and 2.0 with the 5D.

The first post on this thread gives a dead link for futher information. Can anyone give me a summary on whether there are problems or could the link get fixed?

I went through exactly the same experience with my EOS 5D and the 15mm 3.5. Several other lenses created a small mirror "thunk" but didn't cause the mirror to be re-lifted.

After much pain and suffering using a number of adapters, I went back to the store where I bought the 5D and tried the 1ds MkII. Absolutely no problems with any lenses or adapters.

Since you sold me both your 18 F4 and 28 F2 I assume that you are no longer committed to using the CZ lenses on a Canon body. However if I am wrong I suggest you get the 1DS MKII and save yourself the pain of mirror banging. It is now clear that for some unknown reason Canon made the 5D mirror longer than the 1DS MKII. Go figure

That thread was moderator deleted because of some improper posts from a forum member. After the issue was looked into, the thread was later re-built from page caches, but some of the links are inoperative as a result.

Thanks for the explanation about the inoperative links.

Still....I am a little wary about getting a Zuiko 21mm lens for my 5D without understanding what words or wisdom or warning lay behind the ATTENTION: READ HERE links....

Anyone care to enlighten me? Can my 5D and a Cameraquest adapter work correctly (infinity focus etc) with the:

Zuiko 21 f/2.0
Zuiko 21 f/3.5

Any guidance greatly appreciated.

ok, my little update then. got my 5D and a not too Xpensive FotoDiox adapter. gonna get a CameraQuest or Son maybe later if i find myself using this combination all the time.
all of my little Zeisses, 28/2,8mm - 35/2,8ae - 50/1,7ae - 85/2,8mm work just fine...
got the impression my 50 is a bit off, and focuses a little too close. i find 10m at around 6 or so, but on a 50 this is not a problem with the hyperfocal at 1,7 i guess.
same thing maybe on the others, but the exactness of the scale is not too important. you'll allways focus on the groundglass and never only just using the scale (different on movie film cameras, my line of work). my groundglass is exactly aligned with the sensor, tested that thouroughly after some problems with focus.. learned that the camera is not too forgiving when pushed to the limits (where you wanne be of course) of low light and slow shutters. gonna change my groundglass for an Ee-S aniway.
for this kind of price range (70€?) you cannot really expect the adaptors to be to the 100th of a millimeter exact (which they really should be, given the tolerances on lenses). not true on the 170$ ones, that's about a right price for a well machined precision piece of work, specially since it's not mass produced.
i was very pleased with my results, nice depth and crisp where i want it. a love the 5d too. that's a real bargain if u ask me.. ok, film is still better but for this kind of money (which is zero from now on, not counting my electricity) i never saw these kinds of images from film. not if u didn't get a pro scan done somewhere and use the best film around, which doesn't come cheap either..
now i'm hesitating to go for a 70-200 L 2,8 canon or a 85/1,2, 135/2 and 180/2,8 which would be more expensive (lots), might include a broken mirror on my 5d and doesn't offer AF functions (not too bad, but might be handy)

your thoughts?

I use Son's adapter for the 28mm f2.0 and can focus past infinity. Works really great as far as I can tell. I use it with the 1DS MkII because I had issues with mirror hangup on the 5D.

the Novoflex adapter is made by Foto Huppert. It is funny, because Novoflex makes all other adapters themselves, but this one is the original Foto Huppert one. The Foto Huppert adapter is more expensive because it is CNC machined in Germany under ISO 9001 quality control from ultimate strength bronze alloy originally used in Bosch hydraulic applications. Then it is coated with the same hardchromium coating as the Leica M7 cameras. In addition, tolerance of machining is within a 0.02 mm tolerance and every (!) adapter is quality controlled on a 70.000 $ Zeiss 3D CNC measuring machine.

Just in case anyone cares. There are some lenses that hit the mirror on the 5D with any adaptor there is, but that is a geometrical problem due to the longer mirror on the 5D. But the Huppert adapter focuses to infinity with all lenses on all Canon cameras.

No problems here using a Zuiko 21mm 3.5 on a 5D. Using Mr Rolfo's adapter.
Works like a charm.

I've got the zeiss contax distagon 28mm f2.8 and 35mm f2.8. I've had problems using son's adapter with mirror hang up. I have to turn the camera off and take the lense off with both lenses to get it to reset. I hear the mirror click when I take the lense off. I also have an off brand adapter that does't allow me to use the zuiko 21mm f3.5. I get an error message with no picture when I take the shot. I've ordered the cameraquest adapter to see if it will work.
Has anyone tryed a zeiss flektogon lense? I'm thinking about purchasing a 20mm to try out.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Wondering about the adapter side of the equation for a 5D.

I'm specifically interested in the 5D Zuiko 21/3.5 and 21/2 combination. I've seen conflicting reports on whether there are issues with infinity focus etc. with the various adapters. Can anyone tell me if there are issues with the Cameraquest adapter for either of these lenses and the 5D?

Another adapter I'd like some feedback on is the Olympus adapter.

I got the cameraquest adapter and my zuiko 3.5/21mm works great! I also got one for my zeiss lenses and they also work fine. Finely!!!!!

Huppert Adapter Carl Zeiss on Canon 5D

I did not reach infinity with most of my lenses with this adapter, mirror hang up was no problem. It's sligtly thicker than the cheap FS adapter. Tested 4/18 AE, 2,8/28, 1,4/35, 1,4/50, 4/300. Only the 4/300 was o.k. for if.
There are some posts in german forums about good experiances with this ring, but also bad ones. Foto Hupperts told me, my lenses would need servicing if they don't reach if, as all of them would be all right for all cz lenses on all canon cameras!?

I have one question to FM member Jens Putzier which published on this thread how well these rings are made and how good they would work.
Jens may it be that you are the producer and supplier of this adapter which is traded by Foto Huppert?
I found two links on the name of Jens Putzier, would you like to comment on this please.

Hello

My experiences mirror those of most of the group. I think there are too many issues with 5D and CZ glass for it to be considered an effective approach. Of course the issues all disappear with the 1DS MkII but then you have $7999 worth of solution albeit a fine one.

One other thing of note. On the very wide angle lenses used with a thin adapter such as the one from Son, the Iris lever on the lens will get forced into a locked condition i.e. it sticks at the widest aperture and you can't stop down. The solution is simple...........get a Dremel tool or fine file and take about 1mm off the Iris lever. No more problems. Thanks to Son for the solution

Hi...I just discovered this topic. I amtoying with the idea of purcahsing a 5D. Currently I am using my 1Ds with Contax Distagon T 28 f2.8 and 21f2.8 lenses in conjunction with the Cameraquest adaptor. Based on the list on page 1 of this thread the 21mm with the cameraquest adaptor will work on a 5D. However, the 28mm does not show results with the Cameraquest adaptor (though it works with the other 2). Is this because it hangs up the mirror or because it hasn't been tested? The answer may be buried somewhere in this thread but I can't seem to find it. Will the 28mm work with the 5D and Cameraquest adaptor?

I just ordered a 5D and the following lenses:
ZEISS - 35/1.4 & 85/1.4 & 50/1.7
ZUIKO - 21/3.5
ZENITAR 16/2.8 FISHEYE
I hardly considered Canon l series since only 1 piece would cost the same as all the lenses above! I've never liked auto-focus so it was a simple decision and...
I'm hoping they all work ok having noted the compatiblity issues with adapters and wides especially....Anyway Will report when the system arrives...
