p.1 #1 · How should I feel ???

I'm wondering, how I should feel about an FMer who bought a camera body from me and said he was sending me a check... then after 3 days, he came up with the story that he had suddenly come up short on cash and was regretfully not able to complete the purchase. That would be fine, except I now see him giddy about purchasing a new D200...

I don't like being lied to as if I'm too stupid to see why he killed the purchase. How would any of you FMer's feel about this?

Not good. You always follow through, period. Sure, there can be extenuating circumstances, but if not, he should do the deal. That's my 2 cents.

Should not wait 3 days. Tell immediately and things may be overlooked. Wait 3 days is not right. You are keeping the seller from the right to remarket the item.

I have never sold, only bought, and always paypal immediately. If the paypal has been screwed up, we communicate like heck until the seller gets the payment. Never takes very long. When trading, I have almost always sent first as a relatively new FMer. When cross shipping, basically you should have proof of shipping within 24 hours.

It does not have to be very hard to have a good transaction.

Well, if he's buying a new D200, he'll have at least 6 weeks to come up with the cash, because there won't be any available before then...

that's a bummer Terry, I know how you feel. I recently purchased a 28-70 from an FM guy and I regret that I did not test it straightaway, after a week I got it out to try it out and noticed that the focus ring was Very stiff. I have owned this lens before so I inquired from the seller if he had neglected to mention it , the box and shipping was very well done so I know it did not happen in transit. He denied even thinking it was stiff and told me he only used it in AF anyway........

yeah , I know just the feeling

Now THAT sucks... well John, I'm sorry you got stiffed. Heck, I got one of those a few months back that was turned in used from the Cleveland Plain Dealer's inventory when they changed over to Canon gear ( thank you Plain Dealer ) and it is as smooth as silk and sharp as a tack.
I'm sure yours can be made useable again, but you shouldn't have to pay for it TWICE .

I made it to Dodd at the tail end of that sale. All they had were some very beat up lenses and a d1x with no battery. Curses!

The guy is full of it....... you can't give negative feedback here, but you can give neutral feedback... I for one would like to know that he is not the best person to enter a deal with. Just my .02

I feel bad for you but I can see how someone would change his mind after the D200 anouncement. some consider the deal done when they give their word and some once the exchange takes place. I guess he falls into the second category. What body did you sell?

this should be in a rule and we should have the black list in the forum . somewhere along with the profile , it should have an indication of how the buyer is.

I have had a few situations where I had did the "virtual handshake" on a deal and then found out later he got a last minute better offer and just blow me off.

Changing your mind is not legal, but it is pretty crappy. The Golden Rule should always be applied. I have lost money on deals where I let something go at a lower price only to have someone else offer the moon. It just happened with the D100. Weeks and weeks of no one wanting it and the moment I sold it, I got another offer that was $100 more than what I agreed to.

What is worst of all is the guy that makes the deal (this happened to me in the past two weeks) and then when the money is ready to be sent say, "I just had someone offer it to me for $250 less could you match that or come close?" I say, "No." They then go, "Ok..I will buy it at your price then."

I mean, if you were trying to renegotiate, then you would be willing to drop me for the better deal--- so you lied to me. I hate liars more than I do jerks... your guy is just a jerk.

I'm glad that you all agree. I felt that it was a bit shabby. I'm not gonna Blow Him Up here, however. I will give him the benifit of the doubt, which is what he asked me to do in a PM since I posted this. I had another guy ask me, after this deal fell through, if I still had it and when I email him back to tell him that the deal had fallen through, he email me back and said the following:

" I actually bought another body right after I sent you the email"

These folks don't sound like they are thinking these transactions through to me.
If you aren't sure, don't act like you are. If you can't afford it, don't pretend like you can. If you have a problem, be forthcoming and let the person know ASAP so that they can get on with their business. And realize that timing is everything in sales.
I sold it to another FMer after all this hastle. But there are lessons to be learned by prospective buyers here. It can and should be about honesty and integrity. That is what makes this Forum special. Good people being good to other good people. I hope this wakes a few people up.

Let the photography begin.... enough of this cr@p.

I'm locking this thread as it doesn't belong here. All buyer and seller feedback should be posted on the Buy & Sell Forum.
