So... replaced the rubber on the CF door by purchasing the new part, and doing it myself ... but now the body rubber is coming loose... and it was kinda loose when I got it - but now its to the point where its kinda annoying, so got to get it replaced.
Does anyone know how much Nikon charges for this sort of thing?
found out that if you order the part - it comes with a sticky removeable backing which you can do it yourself - the girl I talked to said I could do it myself If I was comfortable doing that - I think I will try it - now just have to figure out which solvent to use to remove the old glue.

Few years ago, I brought my D1 to Nikon and the service personel replaced the rubber part in the CF door free....
may be you should bring your camera in the service center and have it check for the price. May be you will have a surprise, like me.

thanks,
Use some 'thin' Eastman 910. Hobby shops or HD has it. That's what I did when the rubber starting coming off my D2H.
My D1 CF door rubber was loose so I called Nikon Canada. $5.00 CND for the rubber and the girl said she would through in the sticky tape also. But being cheap and owning an automotive shop. I trimed the edges as it had streched a little and used 3M moulding 2 sided tape to reattach it. Replacing the rubber is so easy. pull off the old rubber carefuly, clean the old glue off, wipe it down, let dry, peal and stick the new tape and the lay the rubber down pressing it into the corners and smooth it down for a good contact with the tape. done
Yes, the CF Door is easy to fix - I DID IT MYSELF - but this is the body rubber, not the CF door - which is major - and I am planning to go to Nikon and have them do it... the part is really cheap - only like $33 CDN - but I would rather have the experts who do it all the time do it for me.
Andy - please read the message - its the BODY RUBBER - not the compact flash door. I already did the compact flash door - Nikon parts sell you the whole thing for $6, and 2 screws later its done.
We are talking about the Grip rubber which is glued right around the front of the camera with the red tab at the front. Its a major piece of rubber.
I had a look at my D1 and if its the same basic rubber on the D2 it should not be a problem. The rubber deforms and streches with use and the fit becomes poor. The two sided moulding tape by 3M or the stuff Nikon supplies is probably the best. I would not try glue or expoy as bonding soft rubber to metal is not as easy as it looks and there are stresses at work with the handling of the camera body.. John K
While using epoxy or Crazy Glue might sound like a pretty good idea, there are reasons that the camera manufacturers use what they do; It's so they can take it off. If your camera requires a repair that necessitates the removal of the body rubber and you've re-glued it with epoxy....good luck with that.
Body rubber is also typically replaced with new when cameras go in for major repairs (ie; meter replacement) because in the course of it's removal to facilitate the repair the rubber gets too misshapen and streched to be put back on.
