p.1 #1 · Reflections...*Revised

I know the title is not unique but it seemed to work with me for this composition. This image was taken last weekend. Location is the Upper Thames River not far from my home here in London, Ontario. The fall colours were supposed to be at there prime but this year was certainly not the best as others here at the forum have noted. I hope you enjoy the reflection.

Comments always appreciated.

Thanks,
Al B

Suoer i mage, Al. I like the light in this, it is not too bright and enough to bring out the colours. The reflected clouds are lovely.

Hello Al,

Not the best perhaps, but pretty darn good. Have you tried Contrast Masking to selectively lighten parts of an image? The reflections might stand just a bit more light.

Hi Al,

The reflections are tremendous as is your composition and exposure. The colours look completely natural with crsip detail throughout. It's a beauty, Al.

Hello Al,

I like this one a lot. I like the restraint in the colour and in the light. Nice composition too: you have caught the topography very well and the curvey reflection of the main area of trees is great as is the delicate reflection of the sky and clouds. Very nice.

WONDERFUL image. What a superb shot, Al. The light is dull and soft but really magical.
Great shot, my friend.

Hugh, coming from you "Not the best perhaps, but pretty darn good." I take that as a pretty darn good compliment. I agree to some extent that the reflection in foreground is a tad dark as well and no I have not tried Contrast Masking as I wanted to keep the overal scene looking as NATURAL as possible from how I remembered it. If I could accomplish this and at the same time lighten up the foregroud it may result in an overal more pleasing image. If I have time I will revisit this and would like to say that I always welcome your valued suggestions.

Update
Thanks Hugh, your suggestions to apply Contrast Masking to lighten up the foreground worked quite well I think. I was able to make the adjustments IMHO without having a negative effect on the overal balance of the image. The revised image is now shown shown and noted.
Cheers,
Al B

Hello Henry,

I am glad you liked this one. I waited close to an hour before the sun worked it ways through the clouds on this one. I sometimes we are rewarded with patience.

Thanks Ute, I had to be patient on this one to capture the light escaping from the cloud cover. Always great to hear from you and always appreciate your kind words.

Nice shot Al... I know what you mean about the colors this year. I was reading an article in a magazine about what makes for beautiful fall colors... we had every aspect of it dead on, and yet this was one of the least colorful falls I have seen in a while. Maybe next year....

Hi Peter,

Always great to hear from you. Reall, really appreciate your kind words. It is a fairly new location that I discovered close to my home that is worthy of several return visits.

Al:

True, it's not the flashy fall scene, but that photo has a life of its own from the unusual pallet. Very appealing.

Al B,

This photo is very instructive to me. I would have admired the scene but dismissed its photographic potential. You have brought its quiet beauty to life on my screen.

Thanks
