I wish you still had some WA Canons to try on the 5D along with the Leica lenses. I am finding the more I use the 5D the more I really like it. The Detail and DR are just amazing for its price. I also love the image size, gives you more then enough size for cropping out the bad effects.
Most of my other camera's have been sitting since I got it
So far I have not had any problems with any of them I have tried. I still have my wider Pentax lenses to test, the rear element on some of them protrude past the adapter. I was planning on trying them this weekend, my son is finally done with soccer!
I am going to pull the 600L out also this weekend, been itching to see how it looks on the 5D.
I have noticed the 5D seems to overexpose a little on a few of these MF lenses that the other bodies didn't. Maybe because of the bigger sensor

Spartan been waiting to here about a lot of your off brand lens if they are clearing or if you are having any issues working with them. I know you have quite the collection and was hoping you had some feedback on them. Thanks
Ok, nobody likes to mention it but I bet that most of us are sort of waiting for a ...verdict?
What I mean is (and I say this because I trust your technical opinion, Guy) what do you make of the 5D when sided to your DMR?
More importantly and strictly about image quality, for me is: how about the 5D next to the 1Ds Mk2?
Now, I have to state that I don't intend to "hurt" current 1Ds2 owners (actually I would not understand why anyone in their right mind would get offended if somebody expresses an opinion, but I have seen rather ridiculous reactions in previous/other forums...).
You have, after all, compared the 1Ds Mk2 with your DMR which resulted in you selling the Canon's "pinnacle" I believe (but do correct me if I am wrong).
Under this light (pun intended ) follows the obvious question: why would you sell a 1Ds Mk2 and keep a 5D?
Do you consider the latter better than the first?
I am very curious to know anybody's opinion from who's had both cameras and this is the best place, as all three cameras now have had the opportunity to "wear" what are considered the best lenses, please feel free to post, but no nasty replies and no taking anything personally please, unless anyone really thinks that their cameras are another extension of a particular part of their body...
Guy. Let me make it simple. If you took 2 shots of the same thing, same lighting, same lens, same settings, same everything and posted them side by side, would we be able to tell which one was taken with the 1 series and which with the 5D. This is the bottom line a lot of us want to know, or at least I do.

I second that and I would like to add that a 5D/1Ds2/DMR comparison on few test images under same lighting condition would be great. BTW, I know that you don't have the 1Ds2 anymore, Guy. I'm really curious to see how the 5D performs against the DMR w/ the same Leica glass.
Someone at Rob Galbraith's yesterday posted a comparison shot between a H1/P25, 1Ds2 and 5D... it's no longer there but the 5D acquitted itself VERY nicely. --c

Hi Charles.
I've seen it's no longer there but I hope something like this will be up soon on FM Forums. It's nice to see how a relatively low priced FF camera performs (in terms of image quality) against the top end DSLRs (1Ds2/DMR).
I know that a comparison test would cost you very much time, Guy, but I've really appreciated the 1Ds2-vs-DMR thread.
Guy Mancuso wrote:
You guys don't want me to do a DMR /5D thing do you .
I personally don't see much value in doing the comparsion between FF and a crop sensor. A few variables always make any comparison between them argueable.
The comparison between 1Ds-2 and 5D will be more straight-forward to interpret.

It does take a load of time , I may do some later on though. It would be nice to see how the 5D does hold up, i do like this little thing so far.
Thanks for the comments on the DMR and 1dsMKII thread which really guys is a great read there is some stuff about everything in there about processing and some wonderfull images from some really good shooters. It is a long baby though. I think I finally hit a resting spot for awhile.
Ditto, it's an interesting read. So... can we count on a future test report Guy?
What...I go away for half a day and everyone is playing nicely again...
Thanks guys for putting the "familiar" battles aside so that this thread can stay on topic. I'm glad to see that there is a good amount of information being exchanged.
The 5D may go down as an important digital camera for Canon in terms of price point, features, performance, etc.
Someone at RG named Miles Hecker took the H1/1Ds2/5D images I mentioned earlier, cropped them and applied some sharpening. His comments:
I have followed Ron Purdys suggestion and added a tiny bit more sharpening (USM 50 0.4 0) to the 1dS2 and 5D shots. When you do, IMHO, all 3 shots are essentially equal.
Here's the image, which I copied to my server to save his bandwidth. I'm quite impressed. --c

Big smiles from me Charles...finally, someone who gets it.
I can't tell the difference. For the fun of it you ought to photoshop out the titles and invite others to guess as to which is which. They will be all over the lot...

I saw that thread, and I am also impressed by the performance of the 5D. Actually, I think that the Canons have a bit richer color and possibly more contrast (or different contrast), but I'm certain that the difference can easily be dealt with in post-processing.
In my somewhat biased opinion, the 5D is in the big leagues in terms of image quality.
EDIT - OK, I have to add that the H1 does exhibit a bit more micro-detail on the Ryobi drill's nameplate. At my monitor's resolution, I can't read any of the fine print, but the H1's image comes slightly closer to being legible. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but the difference is there.
Well, well... here we have a near-midget that matches "giants"...
...or a potential David on his way to defeat Golias?
Let me explain what I mean:
It is widely accepted that MF backs are great in resolving but they are not incredibly good at high ISO speeds, am I wrong?
If I am not (to which I know the answer), then for high ISOs, then we have only the two remaining competitors here, don't we? (stay with me...) which are the Canons, ok?
If the theory of the larger pixels/reduced noise holds true, then at the highest ISOs we have a clear winner, right? No mistery on which one that is!
More importantly, for the same reason, a clean image can enlarge more (as in "upsized" with Genuine Fractals, Bicubic and the likes) if there is less noise (try this, and you'll see for yourself).
The conclusion is that if I want to upsize from 12.8 to, say, 29 MP (just a number picked random, but contained within reason) I have a very good chance of getting an equal, if not better (due to noise) image file and ultimately print size.
I can easily print, as I did, super A3 (13"x19") photos from my 1D Mk2 with just the usual basics like levels and USM in Photoshop and these have come out absolutely stunning, so this leaves me wondering about what I could do with the 5D, given the same pixel size of 8.2 micron and the fact that it has 55% more pixels...
Something to think about...
