p.1 #1 · 85mm f/1.4 is here...slight problem...

Well, about 3 weeks ago I picked up a Canon 20D and a couple of L lenses to try out. I put my D70 on Ebay, expecting Nikon to announce the D200. While I was in the midst of all that I bought a 85mm f/1.4 Nikkor that just arrived today. The problem is...I have NO NIKON BODY to try it out with!!!!

I'm dying to try the lens out. None of my buddies are photographers, so they dont have DSLR's. So, I've got a couple of options:

1. Go out on Ebay and buy a used D70/D100 body to play with
2. Buy a Nikon --> Canon lens adapter
3. Sell the lens

Well, option 1 I'm toying with, but isn't too economic, especially with the imminent announcement of the D200, there will be a flood of D70's and D100's on Ebay and the forum. Option 3 I'm not ready for yet, because even though I bought into Canon, I've kept all my Nikkor lenses to see what the D200 will bring. Option 2 seems to be the most economic way to try the lens out. Yeah it'll only work on manual, but the sharpest and best Nikkor lens, mounted on a nice, silky-smooth, low-noise CMOS sensor might be worth seeing the results...

What do you all think?

Are you think about D1h or D1x?

If, I am in your shoe then I prefer not spend money on other brand DSLR than my Nikon equipments.

I had Sigma SD9 and Nikon D1h. Too much stress for me to use Sigma SD9 and D1h. Try to avoid two 50mm lens for each DSLR. Sold my Sigma SD9 then added D1x. Like you have two 50mm lens for Nikon and Canon

If I was going to spend $1400, I would rather go the D2h route, rather than a D1X. The D1h does look attractive though. On Ebay, they seem to be going for $500-$700. If I could find one in Canada I'd go for it. I don't like buying stuff off Ebay that much tho, so, if any FM'er is thinking of getting rid of their D1h, gimmie a holler!

Why don't you rent a nikon body for the weekend from a camera store. Minimal investment, without making the wrong move.

Christopher's suggestion is probably best.

I was checking out rental prices, and they're pretty high, but probably my best bet. It's funny how renting a D70 costs almost twice as much as renting a 70-200VR or 80-400VR

Option 2 - I agree Number two is the best option. Since the Canon guys are starting to use Nikkor lenses you will have no problem dumping the adapter Nikon to Canon) and turning it back into cash. And fast too it seems. They seem to be going nuts over the idea of good glass at reasonable prices. (seems to be unheard of in Canola-land )

Option 42 - The quarterback fakes left and throws right to the tight end. The tight end squarely pokes the defensive lineman in the eye and .....

Option 43 - Since we may not see the D200 till FEB, you might buy a Wedding pack of 12 disposables to use in the meantime and let Snegron borrow the lens from you for a rental fee for that period of time. Sort of a six month lease. If it works, you could then open a lease camera store , make millions and retire. He'll give you planty of praise for being a good sport.

Option 36 - Take up golf and not worry about it for a couple months...

Your first instinct was right, OPTION two.
