p.1 #1 · D2H: Low Actuations or Replaced Meter

Two D2H bodies, both out of warranty, one with low actuations, the other's had it's meter replaced already.

Actuations are 3k vs. 18k.

Price is virtually identical.

Which do you choose?

You can't predict meter failure in a D2H and both bodies are a gamble. But I'd get the one with the replaced meter -- 18K shots isn't a lot and the new meter just might have a lot of life in it.

Meter replaced....

The shutter is going to go 50 - 100K, I'd bet, or more... in the grand scheme of things, I dont think you are talking bout a big difference unless you shoot a whole lot.

I would get the one with the lower shutter count.

I just got off the phone with Nikon repair and the D2H will have a lifetime coverage for this issue if it should occur!

Evem if Nikon will fix it for free: What if it's your only camera?
What if it breaks at a really, really bad time?

Aren't Nikon replacing meters out of warranty as an inherent problem!
Cheers,
Jasin.

His signature says that he has a D2X.

yeah... I got the 3k option. And it'll be a backup, my D2x is my main gun.

Okay, now that Nikon confirmed this policy in the last 24 hours (no guarantee before today that Nikon would do this post-warranty), then the choice was easy.

Got the camera today and instead of 3k it has over 37k. I'm pretty p-o'd... emailed seller, hopefully he'll make this right.

I bought it on here.

actuations on the nikons honestly are pretty trivial. I know some sports photographers who shoot with nikon and get half a million shots a year on a body with no mechanical failures. D2H is a pro camera with top quality construction. I easily put 5-6k shots in a single day of shooting on my D2H, and don't feel like I have anything to worry about honestly. Sorry to hear about the wrong actuation count, but like i said I wouldn't really be too concerned.
