Thanks to all those who commented before. I've borrowed a Coolscan 4000 ED for the weekend, I can get this for about A$650 (take %25 off for US$ conversion). Its not too bad with the Nikon Scan 4.02 software, and even has a Kodachrome setting.
However, it isn't really fast! I might be able to live with that if I get a bulk slide loader (which I'd do the anti-jam mod on). So, firstly, I'd want to know the answer to this..
1) Is the 5000 ED much better than the 4000 ED? Im basically looking at triple the price of the 4000 ED, but once you add the bulk slide loader.. its starting to get closer (only double).
2) Is the 9000 ED a magnitude faster over the 4000 ED I'm using? Because if it was only marginally faster.. Im wondering how viable it is to sit around doing slide by slide scans.. Then again, maybe I'd just be more selective. Is the Kodachrome Pro mode which supports ICE on the 9000 ED much better than the Kodachrom mode of the 4000 ED?
3) Is the warranty worth it for the 9000 ED? I can save about 25% if I get a grey import from the US (I'm in Australia).
Thanks guys,
Daniel.
