If anyone here uses Alien Bees with the D2X, do you connect via the hot shoe adapter or the flash sync port?
Canon was quick to point out that their PC terminal required very low voltage. My D2X manual says nothing about voltage requirements for either the flash sync termial or hot shoe. If anyone has the low down so I don't damage my D2X I would appreciate it.
most flash syncs are less than 6 volts, but it'd be best to find your specific specs and follow them. that said I use alien bees with a D2H and had no troubles. I just bought a microsync wireless system so I no longer us the PC terminal.
also, the nikon support site says this:
"Warning: Negative voltages or voltages over 250 V applied to the camera's sync terminal could not only prevent normal operation, but may damage the sync circuit of the camera or flash. Check with the strobe manufacturer for voltage specifications." So I think you're safe unless you plan to hook it up to a transformer!
I have had mine attached to AB400's with no troubles yet.... The AB400 manual says "The sync/trigger voltage is less than 6 volts, safe for both film and digital cameras"
If you ever want to try other strobes, and are not sure of their synch voltage, you can get a "safe synch" from Wein, which will drop any synch voltage down to 6 v. They have a few different configurations available; hot shoe, pc, household. Lumedyne also makes a filter that does the same thing, but theirs uses household connectors.

Thanks all.
Are you connecting via the hot shoe adapter or the sync terminal. The cover on the syn terminal is a stubborn bugger to remove and since I just ordered the HSA, I'll probably go with that.
