p.1 #1 · Nikon D100 Upsizing

Hey guys, i'm wondering if you could tell me how i can get a A2 size print with the D100.
I shoot on RAW, and convert NEF"s from ACR upsize in ACR on the largest possible which file i can. I wanted to see if i can translate that into a 20x24 or 20x32 inch. At the moment in CS the image size comes to 20x13 inches i think!!!

Is there anyone who can help me with this?

Why do you want to upsize it? Just print it - the 6MP image from the D100 will turn out a very nice 20x30 print.

because interpolating its size on a computer will do a much better job than letting a printer upsize it.

your going to have to manually increase the size using photoshop or a program like genuine fractals if the converter wont allow you to do so.

Actually guys here is a bit of a curve.

Just us CS and go to Image Size>pull down BiCubic Sharper and click all the boxes on the left. Make sure that if you are sending to an Epson Large Format printer that the dpi is set to 360. Do the upsize in One step , then sharpen.

J

PS , I know this runs counter to many opinions on the subject, but just try it and you will be amazed at the results

Sounds great - something I have not tried doing... the largest prints I have done from my D100 were 12x17 and they were printed by a lab - no file resize.

Scott Kelby's CS book says to upsize in 110% increments, and also checking the bicubic parameters as john mentioned above. write an action so that you can upsize very very rapidly.

p.1 #9 · Nikon D100 Upsizing

Hello, I use Photozoom, and find it better than (my photoshop re-sizing efforts).
I have successfully sized A2's from a standard 300 dpi 3000X2000 D70 .jpg.
The photolab commented on the quality of the files I sent them which surprised me because it was my first attempt at it on this size.

The steps I used were first to use Capture to balance the image to my liking (no sharpening) then I used neat image to remove (very slight amount) of the noise, then Photozoom to re-size to A2 and finally to Photoshop to sharpen, this was more like the local contrast enhancment processing technique.

I have no idea if this is anything like the correct order/technique but the A2's were amazing from a 1.3 MB .jpg file. I would have no qualms about an A1 from the same kind of file (provided it's tack sharp to begin with).

Hey guys thanks for that i'll try resizing in photoshop. the biggest i've printed was 20x13 which was a perculiar size but for quality, it was fantastic and looks like it can go even further.
Cheers will let you know how i go!!

Resizing in small increments will quickly deteriorate image quality, because you end up sampling from interpolated pixels. The effect is often very apparent in when upsizing to really large print sizes.

Interpolating in one step in PS works well, especially if you do it during the RAW conversion process.

If you have a good printer running RIP software, this will usually give better results interpolating at the printing stage instead of interpolating the image with PS or GF.
