They also mention the 430EX flash - presumably an upgrade to the 420EX with the white balance control of the 580EX

seems strange to me that canon would name a new flash the 430ex......given the fact that there used to be a 430ez flash....i would think they wouldn't reuse the 430 given the amount of confusion that would cause....
That's ok. They made the 420EX even though there was a 420EZ.
One thing that gets me is that the PDF file mentions the 550EX, but I think that has already been discontinued.
I have to say, as someone commented in the ojodigital.com forum where this news originated, its a little sad to see from the amount of interest that the toys are more important than the game to so many people
Strange that such a detailed leak would appear what must be only days before Canon's official announcement. And this after months of leaking absolutely nothing.

The closer to an announcement, the more people need to know. Publications have lead times, etc. That's why the word "Embargo" appears. The reviewers, like the guy at DPReview already have copies of the cameras, whatever they might be, 5D or something else entirely.

This holier than thou attitude, often expressed in this forum (Canon Gear) is silly. If you're so into the "game" why are you reading a forum dedicated to "toys."
"The right tool for the job" applies to photography and I like learning about and using the latest most powerful tools...
Wow! Good police work. This 'Jim Bowes' says he works for an advertising company in Amsterdam and translates brochures for a big internation client. Canon Europe is in Amstelveen, just outside Amsterdam. Canon press releases often come from Canon Europe in Amstelveen.
This seems an argument in favor of the authenticity of the 5D-leak.

I have to agree with smpetty on this one. This is a "toy" forum, so what do you expect? There are "art" forum here for people to post and criticize each other's work. That probably is where Alex should go. We need more people on those "art" forums. The traffic is really low there. Many times, I posted my pics and no one replies.
Well things have changed since that "era", and modern days have brought us technology right... Just like today I'd say wow, my PC is faster, and it's better for doing certain things. You can't deny a faster frame rate isn't gonna help the sports shooter, wildlife & event photographer, etc. I've done wildlife, and I love my 20D, but I can't deny, my friend's 1DMrkII is quite impressive in capture the moment... you just get more selection...
So let me rephrase, "3 FPS is a leap backwards from current technology that's available for certain work".
In any case... there's always something better out there... and not always for everybody's taste.

I find this an amusing statement. Back in the days of the might Nikon F2 and Canon F-1, 3fps was the max (except for the Canon Pellicle). Yet, many great sports and event shots came out of that era...so it can't be said that a 3fps camera is "useless" for sports and events.
Of course they don't want to give 5 fps on the new one... because then everybody would buy the 5D and keep their 20D's for the burst speed. If that happened, I would be less likely to find a 20D at a good price and would be more likely to pick one up NEW!
If this leak is true then the new camera is to the 20D what the 1DsII is to the 1DII, it's a landscape/studio camera and isn't designed for sports shooting. Think 20Ds and you've about got it. The reported impending death of the 20D looks to be increasingly unlikely because of this. It's also far enough removed from the 1DII and 1DsII markets not to upset them too much with it's introduction.
On the positive side it's noise characteristics are likely to be impresive (BIG pixels) and it will be less fussy about the edges of current lenses so I can see a nice market for it.
