well, what'll be interesting is 1 year from now and comparing the winblows numbers to the OSX numbers on the SAME machine!

Certainly will be intersting. It's official now isn't it? Are they going strictly Intel or just x86? They shoulda gone AMD.

ok, so it seems the 0.5GB RAM doesn't make a diff b/w your system and mine.

Not too bad for a two year old Dell. Wish it were faster, though!

Mac dual 2.5

I find this test kind of odd because I have felt that since upgrading to CS2 and Tiger and all that Ram on the same day my system often runs like a dog, especially when working within ACR. I guess it must not be too bad after all, or there is something wrong with my ACR plugin...

Tim,
I don't know enough about memory management to really make anything like an intelligent comment, but the Adobe engineers have acknowledged a memory leak (whatever that is) on the Bridge/Windows Forums at Adobe.

http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@624.L1ZZeQwOsVX.36@.3bba11c7/23

( you have to cut and paste that link, I guess the forum software doesn't like the "at" sign)

I have no idea whether something similar could be happening on OSX, but I am also seeing what seems to be progressive slowdown the longer I work in Bridge/ACR/PS. The poor little Powerbook really starts gruntin' after a while. This never happened in CS. I wish I knew more about how to assess what was going on.

Dave,

What kind of video card do you have? Is it shared video (built into the motherboard) or a stand alone video card, and with how much built in memory?

thanks for the help guys.

its a 128 mb video card, fairly high end i think. hard drive (yup, only one) is absolutely chokkas which probably isn't helping.

thanks for the article on CS2 memory allocation. i do most of my work in C1 so have never paid to much attention to setting up photoshop.

cheers
