I got tired of shooting the "boring aurora" and decided to play around by painting with lights under the northern lights.
I'm tired/punchy so this is the first one I uploaded and it is still raw (other than sized). And I hope I submit this correctly. The Mark 2 is left open on the tripod for 25 secs as I walk away, penlight pointed down at my boots, and strobe is fired at each cottonwood I greet. It was really fun! I will try and post more in my gallery tomorrow.
Mark

excellent! Very inspiring, not only in the content, but also I feel inspired to possibly rob a bank and buy a MK2

Fantastic work Mark, creative and exciting. I would recommend trying to brighten the image somewhat, to bring out more detail (looks a little dark to me but that could just be my monitor). Great entry, good luck!

Thanks Scott for the critique. I've yet to calibrate my monitor so maybe that is the issue too. I actually don't mind it moody, but I don't know how it looks on other monitors.
Do the other shots in the gallery have the same lack of light?
If I had the energy and the luck with auroras, I'd go back and try and make my position more centered on each tree too. But given the nature of aurora lights I do what I can.
Thanks, Mark

I'll have to look again on a different monitor, but your Puck #4 seems brighter than this one, with more detail in the trees and you can see more stars at the top. That's the way I see it anyway...

Oh come on, you seem to have some pretty good luck with the 'lights (better than me!). I know how tricky it is to get them to cooperate with the shot. But you've got a good one here Mark, (IMHO) just try to brighten it up a bit in PS and you've got a winner.

Mark,

I've got a calibrated monitor (FINALLY!) and agree it's a just a bit dark. You might want to adjust the levels a tiny amount. Even still, this works. Your silhouette is clearly seen at tree #2. If you do adjust it, don't blow out those flash lit cottonwoods. I think you have those lighted just right.

Dang it! I've got to get myself away from FM and keep plugging away on taxes!
