Great in-flight shots Martin. Pretty hard to capture them in flight with good DOF without using flash.

One thing I do different than a lot of Hummingbird shooters is that I will use handheld and autofocus a lot, this way you can get the shot when the bird is out of position in your setup and you get the interesting poses, lots of times they are just a twisted jumble of feathers that doesn't make a good picture but occasionlly you get a something interesting.

Here are couple with black backrounds, I prefer a lighted background but sometimes it still makes a nice shot.

Fantastic. Did you use your 70-300 ED for these shots. WOW, and people question that lens. Your color and detail is absolutly incredible. Thanks for showing these.

Thanks Jeff, yes it was the 70-300ED. Its a good lens when used with in its limitations.

Martin: WOW, seems a bit inadequate. They are all excellent!!! I agree with Tim, # 2 has to be my favorite for the colors and the angle. It reminds me of a head on shot of the B-2, or SR-71, just comin' right atcha! Whew! Keep up the great work. Hope you get more like these this year!!! ...john

CanonJoe: The camera was the D70. My Hummingbird pictures started out like that also, but were not as good, through the window with the 18-70 kit lens, didn't take long to figure out I needed a longer lens. But one thing I did was take lots of pictures of them and what that does is you learn there movements so you can start to predict what there going to do so can be ready when there in a good postion.
