To peacefully say goodbye to 2017, a little Fine Art: Tree at Loch Fada, a 4 minutes long exposure taken last spring during one of my Workshops on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Leica SL, Leica Summarit-S 70mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters.

Thanks for viewing, and Happy New Year everyone!

Hey Vieri,

Lovely photo! I really like the lighting.
I recently discovered the Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters and I'm wondering which filter(s) did you use for this photo? I have a couple of "clear" and UV filters, but recently got a new lens, so I bought a Firecrest rotating Polarizer. I haven't had a chance to run it through its paces yet, but I was wondering if you used a Polarizer here or one of their ND filters? If you used a ND filter, what kind of Firecrest ND filter?

I have a Cokin filter holder along with a set of 3 ND soft-edge filters, but it's such a pain to set up and put away, I don't use it much. I'm thinking of getting a regular round screw-on.

Thanks for any info you could share and Happy new Year.
Bill

Bill,

first of all thank you very much for your comment, I am glad you enjoyed the photo.

About filters, here I used a Firecrest Grad ND to balance the sky, a Firecrest ND to slow the exposure down to 4 minutes (I guess it was a 10 stopper) and a Firecrest polariser to take off reflections from the water.

To me, if you are serious about Landscape photography, the best solution is to get a 100mm filter system which you can then adapt to all your lenses through adapter rings, rather than fiddling with round filters. If, on the other hand, you just need the occasional ND for the occasional long exposure, then I'd get a 82mm filter, I'd say a 6 stopper (more flexible, can be used in more situations) and a 10 stopper (for full daylight), and adapter rings. By the way, until Jan 5, using code VIERI30 on Formatt-HItech's website you'll be able to ge a 30% off anything you order.

Hope this helps! Best regards and Happy New Year,

Veiri
