I decided to test out the low light capabilities of my new Fuji X-E3. My son helped me by posing. ISO 6400, camera JPEG, Acros (tweaked), 18-55.

Nice Doug,

I like the rich black tones, why -0.7 EV?

I turned the dial until it looked right . I'm thinking I had face detection on but it was in a metering setting that was reading the black coat as well. The camera wanted to compensate and set the exposure a little high at 0 EV.

For me, all those niceties are too often TMI, one reason I shed the X-T1. By the time I figured things out the moment was long gone.

I set up back-button focus as suggested by Adam Bonn and Kevin Mullins so most all I shoot is MF. Use BBfocus to grab focus then use EVF to select what appears as a desirable exposure, press shutter-release half-way to hold exposure, reposition camera/viewfinder to desired framing point and press shutter rest of the way. Once you select the focus (using MF) that persists, even if camera turned off, until you press MF button again, i.e. de-coupled from shutter-release.

But then you probably already know that,

Best,

Bob

Thanks!

Here's a rework suggested and assisted by my son. We took this into Portrait Pro, then Silver Efex Pro. See if you can see the changes we made in Portrait Pro. BTW, I'm really liking the newest edition.

Yup, much better shape and contour in skin tones. Portrait Pro - hmm - hopefully Mac only so I won't be tempted
