I’m looking at a Nikon 18-200mm lens used on eBay. I’ve bought used before from KEH but not from eBay. The prices seem to be pretty good, I know not to buy from China and to look at the seller’s feedback. What should prices range for a lens like this in excellent condition? Anyone else buy used lenses off eBay? Thank you

Once upon a time that was a "must have" lens. Prices got to $900 for a while when it first came out.

These days, $250-$300 for the VR (red) and maybe $350-$400 for the VRII (gold). $400 might be high now.

It's a decent lens for an all purpose walk around, has lens creep when aimed down. It is an 11 to 1 zoom so don't expect fantastic results. Both versions are the same IQ

What body?

I bought a VRII from Robert's Camera on eBay for $335 about a year ago. Used from individuals can go as low as $300 if you're bidding or get lucky with a low buy it now.

What ckcarr said.

I have one I purchased new from Adorama six or so years ago for about $900. I doubt I've taken 500 shots with it. For serious photography it's usable as a scouting lens but not much more, imo.

Have you considered the 18-140mm? It should be versatile enough and its much newer than the 18-200. Not sure how much of the long end you require. I would consider a 70-300 VR (the original one) if length is what you need.

If I didn’t have the 16-80mm. Then the 18-140mm,would be a better option. I wanted something for Travel. I debated about a 70-300mm but will probably go with a longer prime or longer zoom for birds and squirrels.
I just picked up a 18-200mm VR(original version), caps, case and hood, in excellent condition for $217.
