I'd strongly consider the ZE 2/135 but it would mean having to buy a Metabones as well, for the tripod foot. Not sure I'd want an 930g lens + MC-11 adapter weight (~125g) hanging off the mount unsupported. Not such a deal once accounting for that.

Shame the ZF.2 isn't around for that price as I already have a Novoflex with collar for that mount.

My first-ever Zeiss lens. I'm looking forward to see it on Thursday!

I will use it for wide-field astrophotography, portraiture, landscapes, and low-light streetscapes.

The now-classic 2/28 has had my attention for a while. There is nothing wrong with buying carefully-selected pre-owned lenses, of course, but if I want a new-in-box 2/28, I had better prioritize some funding.

You are in for a treat. It's exceptional. It's heavy and you need to keep your SS fast, but when you nail focus at f/2 it's pure magic.

At $600 I'm getting no interest in selling my 85 1.4 Planar ZE and not sure why. It's my least used of 4 Zeiss lenses.

I am really looking forward to use it and to experience it!

Does it take any TCs? (Canon or 3rd party?)

Using it with a 1.6X crop sensor body and a 1.4X TC would yield a 300mm FOV @ f/2.8.

Mine is a ZF.2, so I don't know about Canon and haven't tried a TC on my Nikon, but apparently some older Nikon/off-brand TC's are compatible and can be good when stopping down the lens.

Keep in my mind that the lens is so sharp you can get away with really heavy crops, especially with a high-mp camera. I've used it as a quasi-macro lens in the past. It will also be awesome on your 1.6x body.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the heads-up!

With a FOV of 215mm @ f/2 this will be my "goto" lens for shooting M31, the Andromeda Galaxy with my 20mp 7D2.

I'm also looking forward to shooting it natively at 135mm @f/2 with the 30mp 5D4.

The days of using the Sonnar. Memories on my Graflex XL and 2 1/4 format. Shooting with those and then the smell of fixer in the morning. Ah, the memories . . .

Support is a good idea. I have a 1100g Canon hanging off an MC-11. Even though the A7ii has an excellent tripod socket, and the lens mount is quite strong, the rig makes me nervous. At least the Apo Sonnar is stubby which reduces the moment of force. I ordered a Novoflex tripod ring that B&H comments suggest compatibility with the MC-11. Not that Sigma is off the hook for neglecting a tripod foot, but this configuration should reduce tripod-related stress.

I am curious which model of the Novoflex collar is reported to fit the MC-11?

ASTAT-NEX, and I'll know within 24 hrs if the claims are true.

Believe the hype bro.... this apo 135 is almost perfect, some call it Otus in classic body.

Me too didnít believe what these guys are saying, I bought it because it was way way low in price.... this lens can resolve high frequency details wide open at more 40 feet., I was expecting itís good only at near distances.

Novoflex ASTAT-NEX arrived, and I confirm a proper fit with the MC-11. The default thick (plastic) shim is replaced by the thinner. Vanilla Sony FE lens barrels are also supposed to fit. The foot is asymmetric under the ring so it can be placed further under the lens or under the body. When I mount my monster Canon, stress on the camera's tripod socket and lens mount is completely relieved.

It's interesting you report this. I own the ASTAT-NEX and had tried using it on the MC-11, but for me I found that the ring didn't slide far enough forward on the adapter as it was blocked by the USB port cover. Consequently there is a small overhang from the ring over the edge of the actual mount on the MC-11. Does this occur on yours?

Feeling nostalgic about this.

If you were to make a guess, how do you think this will affect the second hand prices?
