Would an Olympus M10 make a good camera for a teenage beginner.

Can't go above this price.
Need easy portability.
I have limited funds to upgrade afterwards, so the camera would have to be a "keeper"
Probably have to consider price of any additional lenses afterwards

It would be an excellent beginners as well as advanced camera. Nothing you can't do with it really and very good image quality.
Go with the kit lens and add something more in the future such as a 45mm F1.8 for portraits if that interests you (if the camera is for your self?).

The E-M10 is very small and light and yet built very well, it is not weather sealed but great build quality and handling. Lenses are a long term investment, don't sweat it, you can go for on a single lens, specially if it's a zoom.

So long as he is willing to sit down and take time to get to know the menus, and possibly do a little research here and there if he gets stuck, then yes, the OMD em10 should be good for a keen beginner.

Thank you for your responses.
I expect my granddaughter will have to apply some work to learn it well....but that's the whole point in becoming better..isn't it.
Then there's always google and youtube for pointers isn't there.......seems what the media savvy youth are engaged with.

I'll give the camera a try.
