Hi all,

I just recently joined the forum and have a question about lens selection.

Right now my buddy and I shoot only a handful of weddings on the side. I have a D750, D7000, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm primes, a Sigma 8-12mm (DX only), and a Tamron 28-75 2.8.

That said, more often than not I rent a Nikon 24-70 f2.8 and borrow another friend's 70-200 for the weddings. I find myself using the 24-70 on my D750 most of the time. I don't use the 70-200 all that much, mostly due to the inconvenience of switching lenses.

I rarely use the Tamron 28-75, only because I have it in my head that I need a true pro-caliber 24-70 for weddings. The lens is actually razor sharp, but the AF is a tad slow. It is totally fine for 90% of the shots, but I'm not sure I'd fully trust it in AF-C mode while the wedding party comes walking (read: running) down the aisle.

Tomorrow, I'm going to pick up either a Tamron 24-70 G2 or a Tamron 70-200 G2. I'm having trouble deciding which to get. Should I trust my current Tamron 28-75 and buy the 70-200, thereby giving me the option to take glorious pics at 200mm? (I can't always borrow my friend's lens). Or should I grab the 24-70 G2?

To be honest, most of our stuff is shot very wide and with strobes for that dramatic look. But I want to start incorporating some different looks into our portfolio. I'm just putting together a new website if you're interested in our style. www.mvimageworks.com

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you already know...

If you rarely use the 70-200 and arenít confident in the 28-75 then get the 24-70 G2. Iíve never used the new Zooms but have been quite impressed with the new Tamron primes. Plus you have an 85 prime for portrait work.

Sounds like 24-70 on the D750 and 85 prime on the D7000 is the way to go.
