This evening I was testing out the D850 with 50 Cron R and 2 SB 5000 flashes in umbrella/softboxes. I was not sure whether the older style of manual lenses like the 50 Cron R would work with the integrated Nikon flash system. I just used aperture priority mode, 64 ISO. The WB and exposure required no adjustment and worked normal both with the OVF and LV modes. I am very impressed

Hmmmmm, I really really really do not need another 50mm lens. ( I arleady have Nikon 50/1.4D, AIS 55/1.2, Micro nikkor 55/3.5, 58mm 1.4 ) Well, I do still want several, like Nikon 50mm 1.2, Milvus 50 1.4, Reacquire Contax CY 50 1.4 but now this Cron llooks so good, Mmmmm

I had my eye on the 58mm f/1.2 Noct but the pricing is out of league of normality. The beauty with the 50 Cron R is it is so small and light and is incredible value and it is a Mandler design The Contax CY 50/1.4 would be also be superb.

Some more shots this morning with the 50 Cron R

The reason why I like the 50 Cron R is the style and rendering is unique and very different to the 50 Art and 58G. The only other lens I am looking for is f/1.2 but that will now be awhile I suspect.

Shots from yesterday afternoon of Alex clothing shoot. As much I love the 50 Cron R, reality is that you need good work horses lenses like the 105E and 70-200/2.8E FL lenses with fast accurate AF. We were avoiding wind, rain and storms so there was very little time. My Godox umbrella with the SB 5000 blew away with the wind. Some quick repairs this morning, it's back in action!

Shot later this afternoon. The SB 5000 is still working after having been blown away by the wind yesterday

Also is anyone experiencing any problems with the Lr CC Classic exporting into PS with color management. The colors are marginal warm in exporting to PS. I am using consistently for editing ProPhoto sRGB. This does not make sense. I have seen this in the past with Adobe with some of their in between updates.

Small and light sounds great. One thing that modern 50mm range with good optics do not seem to always offer except for 58mm 1.4, which I love but, seems to become a debate for some as to the definition of 'good optics'. Small and LIght was also the virtue with good old Contax Planar 1.4/50. I did a bad job in leitaxing, and basically ruined the lens, and no longer functioning. I miss that lens. It showed all the short comings of old planar with multiple personality. Used price is not low enough for me to justify buying another one... Bokeh cold get bad depending on the condition, especially with strong light. But it was also bitingly sharp stopped down.

Some examples from years ago.

A few cake images from my wifes birthday, captured with the Sigma Art 1.4/35 and the D750, all wide open.

I am surprised how much I like its optical qualities. It is stunningly sharp wide open, sharper than the Sony FE 1.4/35. The bokeh is also better than expected. AF can be on the slower side, I'll reach for the 2.8/24-70 when action comes into play.

Rick, wonderful shots!
Don, great evening capture
Blake, beautiful family shots!
Joe, very nice!
Luka, just love the rendering!

Jannik, congrats on the 35 Art Very nice series!
What AF setup are you using? I use on the D750, AF-C, back button AF-ON. For non-portrait captures I use d9 as the outer points seem to reinforce AF speed/accuracy and for family portraits I use AUTO with face/eye detection on.

I tried AF-ON but it didn't get used to it so far. The location of the button didn't match with my muscle memory - I guess I have to do a bit of training in this regard.

Depending on the situation I use D9 or single spot. The latter, when I take single portraits with f1.4. Didn't use AUTO so far, I will give it a try. Does face detection work properly on the D750?

One more shot of my boy with the Art 35, wide open.

Superb shot Jannik The AUTO works great but you have to set b4 is ON for face detection. The back focus AF-ON is a powerful feature. You really have no need for AF-S mode. I then leave the half press of the shutter for just EXP lock. I now use with my 24 and 35 Art, AF-C and d9 for shots. It seems the Art lenses need this. Even when you wish to focus on a point I still use d9 and it is more accurate and consistent with Art lenses.

Also for graphic and portraits I love to use the highlight exposure metering mode even with the flash system. The D750 has great latitude in the shadows so you lift them as needed. With highlight exposure mode I love it for street photography where I have a beam or slice of lighting coming through the streets and just want to expose for the people in the light.

Thank you, Charles!

I will give it a try later, that sounds good.

Also good to know that this applies for the 1.4/24.. This one is also on my list for a later purchase although two tele lenses (70-200, 200-500) and a top notch portrait lens (Art 85/135 or Nikon 105) are quite a bit higher.

I used that with the A6500 quite extensively. It can lead to quite extreme (under-)exposures under harsh conditions but works amazingly for portraits where the face should always have the same exposure. I'll definitely try that out.

Thank you ! I will start to try using more my Einsteins flash this year! I have lots of modifiers and battery pack also! The power commander is really nice as it can be use as a lightmeter. Great system but no more innovation since the founder passed away.
