The lens says Hanimex Automatic Zoom MC 3.8 35-105. It was passed down when my grandpa passed away. A quick google search doesn't turn up much. My main question is would the lens be worth adapting to my A7Rii? Also, if I purchase an MC to fe adapter, what would be some other great MC lenses to look into (aside from that 56 1.2). Sorry about the broad questions, just hoping someone can help me start my search.

Thanks!

don't dumb adapters go for peanuts? don't expect much (looks like it's a 3rd party, not actually minolta) but give it a go.

it's actually a 58/1.2. typically the lenses worth getting are hard to find or priced to match. you could start with: http://www.rokkorfiles.com/. one that comes to mind is the 100/2, maybe the 24/2.8, which was decent enough for Leica to rebadge.

I had a 35-70 3.5 MC version 2 for a while. it was a decent lens, especially for the price.

I wouldn't expect much from an off-brand zoom from that era.

That said, an adapter will only set you back $10-20. Get a cheapie from Amazon or eBay, give it a try, and let us know how you get on.

Lots of nice Minolta lenses out there. I like the 35-70mm f/3.5 Macro (also nice enough for Leica to rebadge), it's the only zoom I use. Check out the Rokkor thread photos.

Phillip's got a list of his favorite Minolta lenses, along with a rating:

I have an old Soligor 180 that I got when my grandfather passed away. I was pleasantly surprised once I tried it. It seems like a really good lens. Hopefully yours will be good, too.

I think MD lenses are the same mount, I liked 35/2.8, 50/1.7, and 70-210/4, which I liked with tubes

I have a 90-230 Haminex (for some unknown reason) in my stash. I don't know if I picked it up at a garage sale or if it was handed down from a family member. I am posting this because of some similarity in name brand and adaptability even though it's not the exact lens about which you are inquiring. Hopefully, this will be somewhat applicable for you.

I started to toss it out but took another look at it this summer just for kicks. I really didn't quite know what to do with it. But, weirdly, I popped a Min adapter on it and it fit.

So, I have Min adapters for both my Fuji and Sony mirrorless and it works with them - manually, of course.

When I saw your post, I got curious about how it performed so I did a few test shots with it in our brown winter garden just to see what the files look like. I made pretty much zero effort so these aren't much - but at least you can see that it does work and what adapter is needed for it. Also, bear in mind the images are downsized for uploading to this site.

Sometimes these are just projects for fun - so, go for it. These are files from an A7RIII

FWIW, I have a pretty strong collection of Min MC/MD lenses so if you have any particular questions, let me know. Quite frankly, the 55mm f1.7 is pretty nice, especially for the price - but many others are as well.
