AF joystick, improved LCD and EVF and IBIS are really tempting, but I'd have to get a new set of batteries and chargers. The A7RII image quality is already so good, other feature enhancements are just nice to have. Will monitor the reviews. See if A9R gets announced. Also, I have a GH5 with 3.7mp EVF. Not sure if it's the same technology, but it's not that big of

I think if the A9r is introduced the temptation will not be strong since the A9 entry is already at 4.5K USD. The A9r will likely be introduced over the 5K USD minimum and will really be at the realms of pros needing the best for sports/action and high resolution.

I don't think the A9R will be focused on sports / action, rather ultra high resolution for landscapes, architecture etc... Personally, I don't think there will be an A9R as I feel the A9 series will be all about speed and AF which goes against the (R) designation that has been already established.

Interesting. How do you view sold items on ebay? I have never noticed a way to do that, except for those I have sold my self.

Do a search for Sony a7rII. Then to the left, scroll down a little and you will see a category box for Sold Items. Click that and all Sold Sony a7rII models will come up.

I have no plans on selling my A7R2. It's a needed backup for the A7R3 just like my A7R has been. On another subject, what makes people think there will be an A9R at all? Has there been any announcement from Sony that one is in the works? Just wondering....

I am still hanging on to old A7R. Only thing which will make me reach for my wallet is a big pixel boost, but it is not happening as of yet. With so many great lenses on the market today, I much rather play with them, then investing in body, which is loosing value much faster.

Thank you! I never noticed that check box before. It's a good way to check one's listing price!

The actual sold prices are mostly around $1950 to $2050. Here is a description of the cheapest I saw--$1850: "more than average signs of use and wear on the exterior. I tested it and it works perfectly. Rear LCD has many coating scratches". I actually didn't see anything I would count as a bargain in the most recent 10 or 15. There was one in similar condition to mine that sold yesterday for $2100 (that would be about $1870 net to seller after all fees).

Ebay is a much bigger market than FM, and may be less sensitive to improvements in the new model. I guess we will see where the prices go.

Just for a random factoid on where the prices of older superseded models go: Ebay says the trending price of used Canon 5d mk iii bodies is $1562. It was introduced about 5 1/2 years ago, and the mk iv was introduced in August 2016.

I'll stick to my A7rII for the time being. Honestly, I am thinking of downsizing to an RX1rII if anything since most of my photography is travel-based. But I think I'm going to find it hard selling my A7rII just because of how good it already is.

I'm not quite sure you did the search correctly but here are some examples of what I would consider bargains just to justify that they are out there. These are all in the last 24 hours and many have additional accessories with them to further enhance their value. There are many more if you go back further. There are also ones that sold for much higher but there are deals out there and quite frequently.

Any tangible benefits to jumping to the A7R III from the A7R II if you're using mostly manual focus primes for travel photography 80% of the time?

The EVF's a nice improvement, taken from my experience playing with an a9. Dual card slots can be handy. And, if I were going to get one, I'd probably abuse the pixel shift quite a bit. Better battery life. That's all I can see.

I think a lot of people are going to be very, very happy - both those buying the R3 and the used R2's.

Buying the a7riii at release to get some of the a9 performance at a cheaper price doesnít really stack up in the U.K. -

A9 release price - £4500
A9 current price (grey) - £3100
A7riii release price - £3200
A7rii current price (grey) - £1650

Of course 6 months after the release of the a7riii this will be a completely different picture

tz, much the same, which is great. A lot of people will indeed be very happy, look at it this way:

It stops the ever-increasing price spiral; it gives anyone with the same money a better, more modern camera with some useful features and steady improvements; it floods both the new and used markets with highest quality flagship cameras at very decent prices. The release price level will come under downside pressure from (i) the used market, (ii) from the suddenly reduced a7rII price structure and (iii) the not-so-great technical and usability differences (it's more like a sports version of the a7rII, if you like). Fourth, Sony sold a lot of a7rII cameras.

So a perfect refresh option; and if you are underwhelmed, be reminded the a7rII (and perhaps this one) has 1.6 stops more dynamic range than Canon's 5DsR. That Canon megapixel flagship is $700 more than the a7rIII and, right now, $1300 more than the a7rII. So much for Sony's price gouging. Cry me a river.

I can think of one downside - you will have to carry more filters since the A7riii can't use Sony's apps (if you use them of course).

One reason why I will keep on of my A7rII's as for landscape work I really can't see, apart from a slight DR improvement, that in real world use and prints I will gain a lot from the new model. BUT when it comes to PR and event work the faster focussing, better eye detection, silent continuous shooting, high iso ceiling etc are all big plusses for me. Of course the high price of the A7rIII in the UK and drop in value of used is a pain that I will have to live with and I see no point in waiting as with this insane Brexit thing going on our economy could even worsen and prices go up more (a topic I should maybe keep away from)

I think I did the search correctly. I searched for "Sony a7rii used" and selected the check box for bodies that were actually sold and I also selected "buy-it-now " sales to eliminate the vagaries of auctions (since we are trying to discover pricing here).

As of Sunday morning, October 29th, the following was returned for a search on actually sold A7rii bodies via buy-it-now listings:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&_nkw=sony+a7rii+used&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1

The prices of the five "buy-it-now" sales that have taken place since the announcement of the A7RIII are:

$2099, $1995, $1990, $2000, $2050. I eliminated anything that sold for much more than those prices but that had significant extras.

Best not using the word ďusedĒ in the search as most people donít write that in the title of the listing. Just type in Sony a7rii and then filter results by condition and select used there. I think that will yield more results

Edit - just tried on eBay uk. 29 results for current listings vs only 5 when the word used is included

I don't think the search function does just titles. I think that the ones that showed up in my search did not have "used" in the title. Otherwise, there are tons of new ones for sale--$2200 or $2250 for gray market to $2400 for USA--that show up in your search. You get a lot of new ones without the word "used". Also, I wasn't searching current listings--I was searching only those that had actually sold since the 26th.
