This is a tiny fungus I have seen one before, when the fruiting bodies were typical of the species.

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1335963/

The ones found this month seemed to have juvenile spore capsules and exposed balls of spores. The typical form was missing, presenting some difficulty in recognition. One feature did help, the smell on the fungus is very similar to that of the spice.

This species is in a genus and family of its own. It grows on the bark of (mostly) broad-leafed trees.

I have sharpened some these a bit more than usual, at some cost to the background, but showing useful detail in the fungus. The stereo is crosseye.

EM-1, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro (twin flash) or Schneider HM40 plus Kiron x1.5 TC.(triple flash).
