Is it possible to see monochrome in the vf without having to capture a JPEG file? Using an X-T2.

Sure. Just set it to capture RAW only. The viewfinder and JPEG preview will be monochrome, while the RAF will not. It may come into Lightroom (what I use) with your settings (like Acros) there, but they're gone as soon as import is done.

When you choose a non-colour Film Simulation the viewfinder will always be non-colour regardless whether you shoot in RAW, RAW&Jpeg or just Jpeg).

Any RAF files you create when you choose a non-colour film simulation contain the raw data (which you can process however you like - B&W or colour) but you will also have the EXIF data for your film simulation in addition to non-colour preview and thumbnail jpegs.

Most computer based viewers will show you the B&W preview but you can also convert the raw data and end up with colour if that is what you want.

You could always shoot RAW + jpg. The jpg will be processed with the color profile while the RAW file will be in color.
