105mm F1.4E & PocketWizard HSS Issue

Here's a weird one, my Nikkor 105mmF1.4E is having High Speed Sync problems with my Nikon SB-800 and PW MiniTT1 and FlexTT5.

Both PW's have up to date firmware as does my D810 but when trying to sync at speeds above 1/400 I start to see the shutter curtain near the bottom edge of the frame. This becomes very apparent at 1/1600 and above but is inconsistent frame to frame. Mount the SB-800 on the camera hot shoe and it syncs just fine, put the SB-800 on either the Mini or Flex and mount on the camera, sync problems.

I have swapped out the 105mm F1.4E with my 14-24mm F2.8G, 24-70mm F2.8G, 70-200mm F2.8G VRII and my 300mm F2.8G VRII and they all will sync just fine using the PW's up to 1/8000 sec, told you it was weird!

Testing protocol, turn devices on from Top down, get calibration pop, fire off a frame or two at 1/160 even tried 1/125, set Custom setting e1 to 1/250(Auto FP), even tried 1/320(Auto FP): no dice, will not sync at high speeds with the 105mm.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like the lens needs a trip for a tune up
