I should explain about the ready to fight statement.
I've seen this deer for the last 4 years during the rut.
I've never seen him back down from a fight.
That's how he ends up looking like this. (from two years ago)

It was nice to get a couple shots of him before he starts fighting, with all of his tines and without any cuts or puffy eyes.
