p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sensor Cleaning

Hi,

I was wondering if people had any recommendations for cleaning their camera sensor - it seems like a good amount of dust has gotten in to my 5D3 sensor and is affecting image quality. Was wondering if people had a DIY solution they preferred or if I should just take it somewhere to get it professionally cleaned instead.

Any tips are appreciated.

Thanks!

This had been the subject of numerous threads (that will give you options but not consensus).

At the top of the page you will see Search after Home and Forums. Happy reading.

Personally my approach is blower-and-if-blower-doesn't-work-then-wetclean-with-eclipse-fluid-and-a-paddle-with-pecpad.

Definitely do a search here on FM.
You can find a relatively cheap sensor light on ebay/amazon.

In short for me.
Blower
Sensor brush (with or without static charge)
Some like a gel pad/stamp
Vdust solution with orange swab. Probably will need three swabs if it is fairly dirty.

If you have hard grit on your sensor, the swab will scratch it.
If it is just dust, water spots, or oil spots, then you'll be fine.

Timely thread for me. I had a bunch of spots on my sensor that wouldn't blow off. Brought it into the local shop and they wet cleaned it, removing all spots except for one stubborn spot that looks "chunky". I just bought a sensor gel stamp and plan to give that a whirl. For whatever reason the Kolari glass picks up more junk and holds it compared to the native Sony cover glass.
