Talk about dreaming?
le-ea5 with improved autofocus module, so that all poor autofocusing a7's out there could finally get the only improvement really needed

Carbon Fibre and titanium exo-skeleton LA-EA3 60 grams, sports model. A battery for a7/a7r series half the weight and twice the shot capacity.

Desires:

A7III: Like Jordan says-- with a lowish, approachable price. I think $1700 msrp is right on. Sony could really shake things up at $1500. 24-36 mp, better AF, keep the body small.

A7rIII: 60 mp, faster AF, fps/blackout-not-important, same body, iterated IBIS, vertical swing on LCD screen

RX1r3: Same as above, no movement from LCD screen, no IBIS

What we'll get? No clue. Hope it's good.

Bonus: Honestly, at this point-- rather than any body updates I just want a reasonably sized, high-IQ, 35mm f/2 or 1.8 in the $600-$1200 price range. Rather pay at the higher end of that for a wide open IQ stunner tuned for wide open shooting and central 80% of frame... with tight/sharp corners @ f/5.6.

This will definitely happen then because I just bought an A9, and would love the same spec you describe here.

I don't need more then 24MP in an A7III since I have the A7RII for that now. I would love a better AF system in the A7III (preferably on par with the A9), at least 6 FPS and just a bit more overal responsiveness then the current A7II and A7RII. I also really, really hope for a dual SD slot and joystick. Better battery performance would be nice to have too...

...So basically I'm hoping for a "miniature version of my Canon 5D III" with Sony image quality

I think the surprise is an RX body which has a 20MP 1" monochrome sensor

Hopefully the A7 mk3: great AF, A9 battery, joystick / touch screen, 24-30 MP, new EVF with specs like the SL. Priced 1800-2400. End game

IMO the A7 mk3 is more needed than A9R or A7R mk2, As it will sell more in volume

Sonyalpharumors posts a rumour about a 20/2.8 FE today, link.

It would be a logical addition to the existing lineup of affordable FE lenses, 28/2, 50/1.8, 50/2.8 and 85/1.8.

Yours is the most realistic "wish" and closest to what the A7III spec is likely to be.

Now we need an affordable FE 135/2.8.

A7II 3 years old in December
A7RII 2 years and 2 months old
A7SII 2 years old.
A9 6 months

So in my view A7III is most likely unless A7II sales are so good it is not a priority.

Of interest in uk A7II body is 1169 cheper than A6500 body by 100UKP *
Add a standard lens to both and the gap increases to 660 UKP mostly because it is 17-70mm on the a6500

* suggests thin profits or low costs on a7II.

I am more interested in a A6500 successor so I can pick a A6500 at a more reasonable price.

I agree with this list regarding A7III and especially A7RIII (I never followed the RX1 market, so I have no opinion there). But what it really needs to make this happen especially regarding pricing is - COMPETITION. I don't see Sony getting below a $2K price tag with their A7 series cameras if they keep the current monopoly - unfortunately. I hoped for Fuji to step into this game, but this is bust as we all know....and my expectation from Nikon and especially Canon is low, but no matter what they will release in FF mirrorless will be an overall market improvement regarding pricing no matter what the specs are.

Of course - if future competitive FF mirrorless models are so bad in compared specs that they are no real competition....then this also is bust regarding pricing control. This is the worst case scenario.

A crippled A9 would Be an easy move. An A7ii with 6fps A9 sensor/autofocus, single card slot, fewer physical controls and a smaller battery.

That would be the easy move.

This is my thoughts as well. A crippled A9 sensor in an A7II series body. I think they'll differentiate body styles, which will include joy stick and dual slots. If they make that slot a UHS-II on the A7III I'm in.

Yeah, that would be just my kind of luck.
I've just started a trade of my ZE 135 Apo for the 135 Batis

I also have the Batis 135...so not really a benefit to me either. I'm just looking out for the those not wanting to spend 2K on it.

Yeah, I found a 135 Batis used and decided to trade my ZE 135
I know the ZE is better but it's rarely used due to weight and bulk when combined with the metabones.

A slightly lesser lens that gets used more is more value to me than a perfect lens that doesn't leave the house

Folks complain a lot about the battery life of the A7-series cameras as being too short. Sony responded by making larger battery capacity, like that made for the A9. A larger battery capacity means a larger physical dimension. For that reason, the A9 is slightly larger than the A7r II, too. Not by much, but it is larger nonetheless. Now, some folks want to go back to the smaller battery again. It is really tough to please everybody .

Frankly, I got a hunch that the physical dimension of the future full frame cameras will be that of the A9, utilizing the larger battery and Sony will keep the smaller battery for the A6000-series cameras.
