p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Wide Angle Lens - Need Help

I just bought a D7500 with the 16-80. I want a wide angle, but totally confused(I知 reading too many reviews)😳 I thought I had this figured out but I don稚.. I was looking at the Tokina 11-16mm, Sigma 10-20mm, Tamron 10-24mm, Nikon 10-20mm or Nikon 10-24mm. Im looking at something used, for landscapes and occasionally inside, which the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 probably is better low light. The Nikon 10-20mm seems to be the worse for IQ out of the bunch. As far as my budget used I壇 like to keep it between $300-$450. I really like the 10mm perspective.is there another lens or some sort of a prime I知 not looking at? My my concern is IQ. Thank you

you forgot the Tokina 11-20/2.8. The update to the 11-16/2.8

I had the Tokina 11-16 and it is a very usable lens. I went to the 11-20 for a bit more range and overlap to minimize swapping out with the 16-80

One thing about lens reviews, even the worst lens is usually a better performer than the shooter. Get the one you can afford, and learn to shoot properly with it. UWA lenses can be a little tricky.

I'm out of the DX loop (although I did just pick up a D500 Saturday) but have had the Sigma 10-20mm, and both the Nikon 10-24mm and the Nikon 12-24mm. My concern was more the "Now what?" as far as what to shoot, not edges...

Thank you, Did you have the 11-16mm II or original version. Yes, I forgot about the Tokina 11-20mm.

Congrats on the D500. Thank you. Out of your 3-WA lens, which do you use most ?

I don't own any anymore.

The Nikon 10-20mm is a budget lens, and would be expected to be the worst (although that is not always the case, sometimes Nikon hit's home runs like the 50mm f/1.8G).

If I were to buy another for my D500, which I won't since that's not the mission with it, it would be to find a pristine Nikon 12-24mm. I just prefer OEM lenses in general, and Japanese made if/when possible. Not that there's anything wrong with the others, I just don't use... Except my Sigma 150-600mm Sport..

If you could swing it, I saw the Nikon 10-24mm as a refurb at Adorama but it was $649 and out of your range. And, actually you could probably find a clean used copy here for less.

I have the Tokina 11-20, and it is a fantastic lens.

It's solid, it's heavy, it's got brilliant optics, and I've been able to coax an 18-point star out of it at times. Absolutely brilliant lens, built to last, and solid all-around. I've tried a few different wide-angle lenses, and have yet to find something with this build quality at this price. Got mine on eBay for $480.

Also, as a future-proof, I currently have a D750. I am still using this lens in the 16-20 range, because I'm too poor to upgrade to the Tamron 15-30 yet.

I'd personally recommend against the 11-16, just because it's not as usable if you ever go full-frame.

I never thought I'd go full-frame. My camera equipment largely gathered dust for several years while I was in school and the two years after, but now that I've started back up again, not having to buy a wide-angle right off the bat for my D750 has helped immensely. (I put that money towards a 70-200 instead.)

I shoot real estate now, and regularly use the 16-20mm range on my full-frame. Personally, I stick closer to 18mm, just to reduce the amount of falloff, but you can sneak pretty close to 16mm before it really starts to vignette.
