...for no doubt a limited engagement - I thought she'd flown south a couple weeks ago when we had days in the 60's.

Nice set Douglas. I'll be keeping my feeders out for a few more weeks. Haven't seen a hummer in over two week though.

Thank you all for your kind words.

Ted,
Is it the mottling under the throat that identifies this as a male?

Hi Doug,

When first fledged, the female ruby throat and male ruby throat are somewhat difficult to identify. Both have white tips on their tail feathers and their neck /gorget is white. The juvenile males neck/gorget however with have noticeable spots. From late June on, the spots will multiple and darken a few will turn a mature color.

You can see the dark spots on the neck/gorget of your hummer, clear on two of the shots.

Good Morning @douter@ ,

Just now as I am sipping my coffee guess who I saw?
My hummingbird is still here He sipped on the flowers and sat on his perch. Wonder if he was saying goodbye to me...

Just had to share this update with you.

Have a great day,
BB

Thanks BB, I haven't seen mine little guy for about three days now, perhaps next year he will return with a color under his chin! Guess I'll be turning my lens to the onward march of Autumn colors and migrating waterfowl, and the occasional senior.

Nice work on these, Douglas. Activity at our feeders has slowed dramatically in the last 2 days here in central Arkansas.
