This is not a question, but rather a continual post as I pare down my F-mount (Nikon and others) lenses in anticipation of a near-ish future full-frame mirrorless camera from Nikon.

So far:
16/3.5 AI Nikkor fisheye
45/2.8 AI-P Nikkor
90/3.5 CV SL-II
180/4 APO CV SL
300/4.5 ED AI Nikkor
400/5.6 ED AI Nikkor
600/5.6 ED-IF AIS Nikkor

are staying.

I don't do any kind of sports/action with my D800, so AF is not important to me (all my AF Nikon lenses are being sold)..

Today I evaluated my 90/3.5 CV on my A7RII and it was excellent at far distances even wide open, so it stays.

What lenses are you potentially hanging onto specifically for use with a hypothetical FX mirrorless from Nikon?

85mm 1.4 AIS and 105mm 2.5 AIS. And will buy CV 58mm 1.4.

I sold all my Nikon lenses years ago when moved to the A7s.
All except 85/1.4d, 105/2.5 ais.
Then few months ago bought a brand new 50/1.2 ais, of which I'm very happy.
The one that gets used less is the 85 but I could never sell it anyways.

35/1.4 N-Nikkor - had it for ages, still sharp at f8.
ZF 28/2
ZF 25/2

All are small, light. Would wait to see what native lenses are like.

All current rumors suggest it will be a new mount, and Nikon has patents for just about every imaginable MILC lens. My guess is that like with the F-mount, the lenses will work on both FX and DX versions of any mirrorless that comes to be. You can also count on an adapter for F-mount, but as always it probably won't be as good as an experience as the native lenses. Pure speculation of course but that seems to be what people supposedly "in the know" have said.

HI John.

I sold off most of my AF stuff a while back too. But did pick up the 200-500 and will most likely keep that.

Assuming they stay F mount or at least have an F adapter, the following is in my never sell list of manual focus glass:

All Nikkor
8mm Fisheye (just because)
16mm/3.5
18mm/4
24mm/2.8
35/1.4
45/2.8p
58 Noct
85/1.4
Some version of the 105/2.5
Either the 135/2 or 180/2.8 (although I have not shot either of them recently)
200/2 is also on my never sell list.

Would love for Nikon to have the ability to mount/adapt their old rangefinder glass in the future. If not, I am happy using them on my Fuji and on the Nikon S2 for a few rolls of film per year.

I think the above mentioned 200-500 will eventually push out my long MF glass. I just recently let go the 400/2.8

All my other stuff is fair game and I really need to start moving it out.

George

Going by the experience of many with Canon TS-E lenses and Sony, I expect a lens like the 19 PC-E to be better adapted to a new mirrorless camera or at least be a lot easier to use.

I'm seriously hoping that it uses an F mount- no reason that hasn't existed for 30 years to change it now!

Thom Hogan doesn't seem to think a full frame is in the cards any time soon, and I tend to agree. The whole point of a mirrorless is to shed bulk, and I just don't see a full frame camera doing that. Also, the vast majority of camera buyers are buying DX. Anyway, I am interested in a small camera, but I want lenses that are very small, something like the Leica LTM lenses. Do not want big lenses like the Nikon AFD etc.

But remember that Nikon once DID make some very nice small lenses, the lenses for its S rangefinders. I'm hoping any new small camera takes S mount lenses as those are sharp and easy to travel with. I really don't want to have to use my big Sigma 1.4A lenses on a Nikon mirrorless, or even something as big as the Nikon f1.8g lenses. What would be the point? An adapter so I could use them in a pinch would be nice though.

Mirrorless with a fully compatible F-mount (e.g. screwdriver and mechanical aperture)? I highly doubt that will ever be built.

Nikon could specify and manufacture an adapter that is very rigid and very precisely built, varying just a few thousandths (inch) from sample to sample. But to support a large telephoto, and be precise, it'd have to be a hunk of steel, or Mg alloy. Plus both ends would have to see repeated bayonetting and un-bayonetting, in professional environs. That's just the structural aspects. Then it has to communicate as well. It would be expensive. $500?
