Thanks. Will join once I start taking some pictures.

Do you guys have any suggestions for a decent clear filter for lens protection?

Aja I did a plain B+W uv.
I never fiddle with the lens cap. The u/v filter is sacrificial enough for me.

I would be worried about using such cheap filter. I have only used B+W in the past.

Did you experience any flair of lack of sharpness with Amazon one?

Was there not an article somewhere in the past year comparing UV filters and the summation was they are mostly samie same within reason?
i really should be using the Amasonbasic type because using they like I do it's not long before scratchup and replacement. Long ago I missed too many shots fiddling with a cap.
That amazon filter has a lot of reviews....yeah mostly from snapshooters like me, but my attitude is filter better than no filter.
I bet Ken Rockwell would disagree ??

AJ...

Believe me, I have gone back and forth on this issue a couple times. I used to use ONLY Nikon "NC" filters. Then a year or so ago, I saw an image of a bird on FM taken by someone who was shooting thru a DOUBLE PANE WINDOW on his house (it was cold outside or something like that). The image of the bird was virtually indistinguishable from a "normal" picture.

There wasn't an A/B comparison...but man oh man, if that gentleman hadn't mentioned the window, no one would have guessed. A few folks in that thread remarked at the possibility that maybe we all take too much time considering the quality of filters.

OK...

So that said, yes, I do see some flare when pointed into the sun with the Amazon filter. I just got back from a trip and I'm going to do a comparison with the Amazon and the Nikon. I'll post here with results.

OK...so "multi coating" (duh) is of course important. I guess I didn't realize the Amazon had zereo coatings.

Here are 3 images (SOOC JPG XTRA FINE, 24mm, F2.4)...first is no filter, second is Amazon Basics, third is Nikon NC. Besides the flare, I can see zero difference.

So...

If a person was careful about the sun, or maybe even removed a non-coated filter for toward-the-sun images, they'd be fine with a non-coated, cheap filter. Otherwise, "multi coating" is (again, duh) a must...but OK...that said, are there differences in multi coatings? I'm sure there are, but can a difference be seen in the final image?

So what's the conclusion? At least on the phone I don't see any difference :-)

On a separate note, people who have used EM1.2 + Panasonic 100-400 and Rx100IV, how do they compare in terms of IQ? High ISO? In terms of AD, my guess is that RX10IV just be faster but in terms of IQ, m43 might be better (but not by much).

Will be interested in replies to this even though I have made my decision in favour of EM1+Panasonic.
Reason was that I already have EM1 and I am very pleased with the Camera. Adding a new Camera that weighs more than a Kg plus new set of batteries to carry plus I already have a walk about lens in 12-100 and finally the fact that Panasonic is 950 grams and has more reach. All this if we assume RX10 is equal in IQ which it is not.

Gonna take my brand spanking new RX100IV for its maiden shooting and would like to know what setting you guys suggest for BIF? I plan on shooting ducks with it (in between shooting with gun as well ).

Also having gone through the manual I fail to understand how to setup setting in memory. When I select M1/M2, it still shows my current settings.

For BIF I just use Manual with a shutter speed of 1/1000 F4 and Auto ISO, then dial in exposure comp if needed. AF set to continuous hi (I use 10FPS) and wide area.

I can't comment on the memory setting as I haven't set them up yet.

So I took like over 3,500 pictures on my trip to the Klamath Basin, not all with the Sony of course, but I have a bunch to go through still. I used my Fuji kit for most of the landscape stuff, but sometimes the RX was more handy. The coverage of this lens just makes it so perfect for traveling around a place like this. This shot is either a landscape or a bird shot depending on how you want to look at it. These are the same two eagles as above.
