Here are some XQDs:

Lexar 2933x XQD 2.0 440 MB/s 400 MB/s
Sony XQD G Series 440 MB/s 400 MB/s
Sony XQD M Series 440 MB/s 150 MB/s

And here are some UHS-II SDXC:

Sony SF-G UHS-II SDXC 300 MB/s 299 MB/s 299 MB/s
Lexar Professional 2000x UHS-II SDXC 300 MB/s 260 MB/s
SanDisk Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC 300 MB/s 260 MB/s
Hoodman Steel 2000x SDXC UHS-II 300 MB/s 260 MB/s
Delkin Devices Cinema SDXC UHS-II 280 MB/s 250 MB/s
Sony M Series UHS-II SDXC 260 MB/s 100 MB/s
Lexar Professional 1000x UHS-II SDXC 150 MB/s 75 MB/s

With my D800 and its 4fps there was actually no advantage on buying the "fastest card" because the D800 speed was less than what the cards could write at.
Is this the same with the D850 or memory cards haven't caught up to it yet?

there you have it:

XQD
Lexar 2933x XQD 2.0 440 MB/s 400 MB/s
Sony XQD G Series 440 MB/s 400 MB/s
SD
Sony SF-G UHS-II SDXC 300 MB/s 299 MB/s 299 MB/s
Lexar Professional 2000x UHS-II SDXC 300 MB/s 260 MB/s
SanDisk Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC 300 MB/s 260 MB/s
Hoodman Steel 2000x SDXC UHS-II 300 MB/s 260 MB/s
Delkin Devices Cinema SDXC UHS-II 280 MB/s 250 MB/s

being that the data path* is pretty much completely different from the older D800 yes the fastest card will result in faster more efficient operation of the D850 considerably.

Since it is a fact that people recommend what they own, I suggest:

Sony XQD G Series 440 MB/s 400 MB/s
Sony XQD M Series 440 MB/s 150 MB/s
SanDisk Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC 300 MB/s 260 MB/s

Do you notice any difference between the G and M Sony XQDs on the D850?
I only know the difference on the “wallet”

I have the D850, but have not used the M card within. That said the 150MB/s write speed will be slower, read is as fast. Recommended, grab it if you can find it.

I would stick with the G version. Why let a few bucks slow down your camera. Write speed is what matters to clear the buffer.

essentially if you want your D850 to act more like a D800 you go for the M series card

You just want to be sure all your cards match in color. That's what I liked about Lexar...

Your buffer will be significantly reduced if you go with the M series with only 150 MB/s write. Nikon leverages the fast write speeds in these cards to advertise the highest possible buffers.

If it wasn't for re-posts, we'd have no posts at all...

I wouldn't go that far. it not the end just a momentary spike.

run it on SD 2000x for a few weeks. not quite the same but its not wasting your money either.

I used both for only a 2 second, 14 shot blast. After 14 photos with the G the busy light was off. After 14 shot blast to the M card, the busy light was on for 5 seconds!

Ignore my earlier comment, get the G card.
