p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fire in the Southwest

Misc information (for those who may be interested):

A hand held shot, while teaching people to see much better how the ultra wides represent (distort) reality (when I took this image some could not even see the possibility of the shot until I showed them the LCD). As a teaching aid I almost always walk around with my camera OFF the tripod taking tons of "test" shots to help people learn to better scour the almost infinite possibilities of an area (especially with awesome lenses, like my favorite here, the Canon [email protected]) and then I teach people the technique of matching their tripod to their favorite camera positions with precision. Actually, some Fred Miranda members got to see mostly how this was processed on a post processing day we did about a month ago in Tuba City, AZ.

Lastly, if you have not photographed this area, soon might be the time. Looks very likely they will be implementing a strict permit system (kind of like Toroweap) in the coming year or years as traffic has increased so much. Honestly, I am glad in many way because I am all for its preservation.

All the best, Great Light to you and thank you for looking!

Mark;

You do have a knack for this part of the world! Love how the foreground grabs you and yanks you in. Great detail. Just think what you'ld be able to do with a tripod!

What a great shot with an insane sky! And thank you for teaching me that trick of walking around with camera in hand looking for crazy angles when shooting hyper-wide! Dave

That's an incredible image there. The lines leading to the mountain look lovely. Brilliant use of the UWA. Nice sky as well.

Lots to learn by observing this. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you everyone for commenting. I'll try to reply to more than a couple comments here soon. Just been too busy as a new family man in Florida... All the best to everyone.

Thank you Dave! It was a pleasure having you around that time. I hope all is well in Oregon. I'll be around those parts this late fall leading a few workshops and might go by your area. If I do I'll look you and your wife up.

Thanks Todd. And so do you. Congrats on that crazy awesome image at the confluence.

I agree about the tripod. If I had not been teaching it would have been a focus stack and make a much better enlargement.

All the best to you.

Super shot Mark. That WAL creates wicked lines. My 14-24 is not wide enough now

Mark - Is this an area known as White Pockets? I was there last year. Awesome place.
Not easy to get to but worth it. Maybe I am wrong. It looks similar.
Nice photograph!
