Currently have a D7100 and am looking to sell that and a Canon pick up a D500. Is that going to be my option for getting usable shots @ 3200 to 6400 iso for under 2k? All my lenses, save for one, are ff compatible so that not an issue. Thank you for your input.

How about a D750, it's great in low light. I use one for kids ballet recitals. Unless you need the crop. My daughter uses my D500 for recitals and does very well with it

What lenses? Are we talking f5.6 kit zooms here? I --always-- start with lenses.

My main setup for dance photography was D750 and 70-200 2.8 II (before it was D3s and same 70-200)
Monopod helps a lot for 5-6 hours shooting time. Great results.

I have had the D7100 and shoot a lot of concerts. For low light and concerts hands down the D750 is the choice.

The D750 will work just fine, but if you need the 10fps, or the faster AF system, the D500 will not let you down.

While you would get one more stop of ISO with a used D750, you will lose 1/3 of the reach with your lenses.

I second the D750. Works great with my 70-200 VR2 for theater photography (both indoors and outdoors). I shoot at ISO 3200 and can still print good size prints, though I prefer to not go above 2000 but I'm picky about noise.

I've shot extensively with both the 750 and 500. If you shoot raw and convert with good software, such as DxO, there is a third or less stop difference.

D750 would be a better choice for low light high iso photography.

I've shot bands in very low light clubs using both a D750 and D500 at the same time, and changing lenses back and forth. The D750 files look much better at high ISO (f2.8, 1/320, 6400). If you're shooting something moving faster than a punk band (and that's pretty fast), then the AF of the D500 makes it a better choice.
