I'm glad that the d850 seems to be a winner. I can't wait for the 24 mp version next year.

Owning both the d750 and d810 I can't wait to ditch the toy-like d750. The d850 is such a great marriage of those two bodies but in the much more professional feeling d810 body (plus D5 AF, focus peaking, etc). Even if a d760, or whatever, comes out that is the d850 in a d750 body (with some compromises like 1/4000 max SS) I'll for one be glad to have the more substantial and better quality d850.

+1 to this. I had way too many issues with build quality on the D750. I have no interest in a D750 update at this point (assuming there is one, which I kind of doubt).

Hey Tony. What’s the raw file size for mRaw vs 12bit lossless raw. Thanks

My guess is very slowly.

It would be no different the the canon 5DR/S. basically use smart preview.
This should be fine... given Lr current state of operation.... which is okay to a little better than okay.

The only time you use full raw is in the conversion to jpg.

We still have to convert to DNG before import but once LR is updated handling native NEF should perform the same.

If you guys use and force smart previews, which you should, and clear cache when things start to feel sluggish, which you should, then it should handle the D850 files without issue. If you insist on handling it 1:1 you are just asking for trouble and/or early castration.

I'm glad you covered the shutter sound. This is the perfect type of review for how I would shoot with it. If only the funds were there.

I understand where you are coming from. Personally, I like the d750 body weight and shape. I just think that the d850 is more camera than I want and need. I don't see using the full resolution of the body. I would be using m-raw but paying for the whole image sensor. I had a d800 and that was overkill for my needs so I'll be waiting for similar features with a file size that I would actually use. If I had an extra thousand dollars burning a whole in my pocket ... I would pick this body up though. It does look like a great body. Its just more than I need so I'm waiting.

There a lot more in that $3,300 body than a 45mp sensor...

But I understand your point overall, I do like the smaller size of the d750, but not the build quality when compared to the d800 series. That is a contest the d750 cannot win.

Everyone I know who shoots with a D750 complains about it. Everyone. It's the build quality, or it's the colors, or its the hot shoe, or its ...

How did it get to be so popular?

bang for the buck. I don't know why anyone complained about the color. But the build quality was shit--but you didn't really find out how bad until a year or two of usage. But it was cheap for what it could do... the AF was great (at first) and the files were fantastic. And the pricepoint was very appealing.

I would also prefer the d750 to be built a bit better but not much heavier. A baby d5 ala d700 would be a dream for me. Minus the 45mp sensor, most of the improvements in the d850 should be carried over in the lesser body that will follow. Most importantly for me is the new autofocus system. If the next body doesn't have the new af system, I'll break down and pony up for the d850.

I have always said that the 750 was a terrible camera with an incredible sensor. I have had nothing but issues with both of mine since I got them...it has been such a love/hate relationship. Hoping the 850 changes that!

D750 has pretty good AF, too. The rest of it, especially the build, and grip ergonomics is "meh".

One of our shooters transitioned from a 6D rig to D750 about 20 weddings ago. He claims in reception light with a lot of spotlights (live music) or getting ready around windows, the 6D has a higher keeper ratio.
