I hear you! And your reasons are perfectly understandable.

Sorry if I was a bit too negative, but I also think it's good to inform the "dreamers" of the fact that this very expensive lens has a lot of flaws. If you can afford it without even blinking, go ahead. You'll be able to resell it with no loss. Just don't save up to buy it, to get fantastic image quality.

I have many old lenses that are "poor", but still give very nice images. They are not expensive though.

I love the Noct-Nikkor especially for portrait. For some reasons, I think it is especially synergistic with Leica SL. Now that D850 has focus peaking, it is much more usable as well as I don't find dot focusing in OVF all that great especially at f1.2 . However, I still prefer to use it with EVF though.

Can I mount non AI lens on the TAP adapter or is it useful only for AI and AIS lenses. Will all of them auto focus using the adapter and also can one focus to infinity. Thanks

Well I don't have to dream of it, I simply enjoy using it, and have so for years before there were Sony E and FE cameras.

The nice thing about the TAP adapter is that I now can get better focused images on supporting Sony cameras than I ever managed to get with Nikon cameras.

I have an eclectic collection of lenses spanning 60 years, from the Rigid Summicron of 1956 or 1957 to the newest FE 100-400/4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens. I like variety and different characters. Why limit myself just to a particular type, now that I can afford it

There's no difference between Non-Ai, Ai, or AiS lenses as far as the TAP is concerned. They'll all work just fine with the appropriate Nikon F adapter.

After updating the A9 FW Version. to 1.10, Eye-AF now works with TechArt Pro (TAP) (and the Noct-NIKKOR 58/1.2)!

This is a significant development that a lot of us have been waiting for this.

I respectively suggest that you cross post this info or start a new thread even.

It used to be like $1300 10 years ago. It's now a collectible item, so it may worth $3000. For absolute IQ, Otus is much better.

I really like the rendering characters of the Noct-Nikkor 58/1.2. I use the lens on my Nikon D4s and everything works out very nicely. However, on my Nikon D810, it's becoming a challenge for f/1.2. I felt that the image resolution is very sensitive to focus accuracy for 36M sensors (I also experience that with my Nikon 28/1.4 AF-D lens).

Yup, the Noct-Nikkor 58/1.2 and Nikon 28/1.4 AF-D go well together.
Now that the TAP on A9 benefits from Eye-AF, that's the system to use.

I hope A7r iii comes with A9 AF. I don't need A9 speed/FPS and would prefer a bit more resolution and DR even at the expense of noise level. Then this will be a killer combination. Unfortunately on D850, I cannot fine tune AI/AIS or Noct Nikkor lens and save the value for dot focusing on OVF as dot focusing on Noct Nikkor is just slightly off but I am slowly learning to compensate for it a bit more accurately even at f1.2 but keeper rate is not quite as good as with using LV with peaking/magnifying. However at f2 where it sharpening up considerably, dot focusing is fine.
