Nah. I wouldn't buy one because I've cycled through enough very-fast glass around this focal length to feel confident nothing is going to keep me from reaching for the Rokkor 58. It hasn't hit my rental list because I too think it will be too close to the 35/1.2 for my liking.

The 35 they have coming is f/1.4, an E-mount redesign of their M-mount Nokton Classic 35/1.4. That's the one I'm waiting for (and I wouldn't be surprised if it was announced around the same time as the 40/1.2).

I was told the 40/1.2 will come first but who knows...

Is the redesign available in M mount? I can imagine you wanting to put this on TAP. I'm a bit saddened that it doesn't look like I'll be able to do that with the 40 (which is mainly bad for selfies!)

The fact that only the 40/1.2 and its price was mentioned suggests that it will come first but, we'll see...

if i'm honest i'll probably just stick with the pen f 42/1.2, which doesn't perform anything like the cv 65/2 and i like it that way.

The original announcement was for just the three E-mount lenses: 65/2, 40/1.2, and 35/1.4. It's interesting though that the other CV E-mount lenses (10/5.6, 12/5.6 v2, and 15/4.5 v3) were also released in M-mount. The FE 10mm, 12mm, and 15mm lenses have different designs from the M versions to allow for the thicker Sony cover glass, don't they? Better not to try to understand Cosina Voigtlander's motivations and actions if one wishes to avoid headaches.

Yep! One possibility is that the three ultrawides are so slow that the design for coverglass doesn't matter much, since DOF masks the field curvature even wide open (especially if they were ray angle friendly to begin with, which I don't know)

But yes CV are mysterious. They make the lenses, and then tell the world - including their own distributors - very little. Presumably because Voigtländer is a kind of hobby project for them, that has to involve minimal expenditure (and marketing and information and so on is very expensive)

Do they? At least for the CV15 I think I read that several people experienced no dfference in performance when they compared the M-mount version to the E-mount version on a Alpha.

I meant that more as a question than an assertion. I should have expressed myself more clearly.

At CP+ they had fully working demo models for 65/2 and 40/1.2 and only a mock-up of 35/1.4 that couldn't be used, and in DC Watch interview of some Cosina people at the same time it was indicated that 65/2 and 40/1.2 would come out this year and 35/1.4 was still behind those 2 in development, and was expected to come out next year. So I think 35/1.4 will be appearing later...

Thanks for the clarification, which makes perfect sense. Seems as though I've been misinformed. That's a disappointment, the 35/1.4 is the only one I'd be likely to purchase.

Do you have the older M mount version Jonathon? What does it feel like? It must have a pretty classic sort of rendering given it's form factor and speed. I'd love something which looked like a 35mm version of the C Sonnar 1.5/50. The C Biogon certainly isn't!

I had the Nokton Classic S.C. 35/1.4 briefly after spending a long time on Flickr looking at photos made with that lens. I bought the single coated version because I was after a vintage look. It's obviously a terrific little lens on an M body but doesn't work so well with the A7RII, which is clearly why CV redesigned it for the FE cameras. It's become my habit to purchase lenses on eBay only from Japanese sellers with a 30 day unconditional return policy so I was able to send it back for a refund without any fuss. I'd describe it as the ugly stepsister of the C-Sonnar 50/1.5. I have both the FE 35/1.4 and the FE 35/2.8, which are infinitely superior (for different reasons) to the Nokton Classic 35/1.4. But there's no joy for me in using either of them. I've solved the 35mm focal length problem either by using the RX1RII or, since I have two A7RII bodies, going out with a 28mm on one body and a 45mm on the other. That's the main reason I was so taken by your suggestion of a 28-45/2.8 lens in the "stunning IQ slow normal zoom" thread.

Nops. For regular shooting, I rarely need anything faster than f/2. If I really need a super smooth bokeh, I either use my CV 35/1.2 II or my Canon 50/1.2 L lenses.

It would need to blow away the 35mm F1.2 Nokton, but perhaps.

If it blows away the M-mount Nokton 35/1.2 Aspherical, my interest in the new E-mount Nokton Classic 35/1.4 will plummet from 90% to zero.

The 35/1.4 is going to be a character lens - "classic" - same as the M-mount version. I'm planning to get it because I want it for wonky bokeh with flower closeups. AFAIK, it's the same as the old version, just optimized for E-mount.

That's what I'm looking forward to, here's hoping we're not disappointed.
