We all know by the images that both of these lenses will be big and heavy. So are you interested in any of them?

I'm probably buying the 8-16. I'm hoping it shows great CA, coma, and flare characteristics. And hopefully good sunstars as well. It doesn't have to be optically perfect, but good to great at all of the above.

Not really interested in the 200 f2. I've got no use for it.

I am really disappointed Fuji made a 200/2. Its an elite lens that will demand a high price. A 200/2.8, 66/1.4, or 90/1.4 would have been much more attainable for many.

A 66 f1.4 and 90 f1.4? Why, they already have lenses close to those and the difference is hardly worth making another lens so close.

The 200 f2 will be expensive and depending on price I may or may not be in, but it will be a decent lens that can take the extenders that Fuji makes, so think about it, it is a 600mm FOV at f4 with the 2x extender. That is pretty decent. We shall see what the market will bear.

But like all things everyone has different needs and opinions.

There is nothing close to the 66/1.4. It would create the classic trio with a full frame equivalent 85, 100, and 135.

The 90/2 has two to three big deficiencies:
1. It does not accept the teleconverters.
2. No stabilization
3. No WR

And the price Fuji wants for a 135/2.8 equivalent? I would rather pay twice as much for a 90/1.4 that gives a nicer 135/2 equivalent. Add in teleconverter compatibility and the 90/1.4 can be a 126/2 (189/2.8 equivalent!).

A 200/2? I will never buy a $4-7,000 lens. Given what Canikon charges, I expect it to be at least $5k.

You are wrong. It does have WR. And beautiful bokeh as a bonus

Yeah, this won't change in the foreseeable future.

2. No stabilization

This will be somewhat mitigated with the rumor of Fuji making a IBIS in the next implementation of the X-T2 camera.

3. No WR

It is WR.

Yeah, I can't see Fuji charging anything less. I do hope they make a design change of making a drop-in filter like Canon's and Nikon's 200mm f2's.

Fuji is thinking down the road as speed of focusing and viewfinder specs get better and better with cameras like the X-T2. In order to compete with dslr's in the areas they excel in, Fuji needs long fast glass. I expect after the 200/2 we'll see more of the same down the road. Lenses in the 300mm and 400mm will be needed to attract pros who need this range.

It's really not that they're being elitist, it's looking toward the future.

Having said that, I will not be buying these long lenses as it doesn't fit my shooting style.

I switched to Fuji to have a small setup. So no, as interesting as these lenses look, I won't buy them

I'm happy enough with the setup that I have now, with four prime lenses and an X-Pro2, and honestly have trouble using it all enough to do it justice. I'm actually feeling the need to minimise my kit but have conniptions about deciding which lenses I could do without...

For now I won't buy any more Fuji kit until they release a camera with better tracking autofocus and hopefully face detection. My kit is sufficient for my needs, in that I can position the focal point over someone's eye and be pretty confident of nailing focus, and with a bit of time focus peaking is quite reliable, but for the kind of photos that I tend to take (events, some sports), better autofocus would be a big help.

Doesn't the XP2 have face detection? I know the XT2 has it.

If the 8-16mm had OIS, I would be all over it. Bit since it doesn't, I will stick with my 10-24mm.
Regarding the 200mm, even if I had the money which I dont) I would rather spend it on a medium format kit.

Yes, the X-Pro2 does have face detection, but I have not found it to be reliable in nailing focus on the eye.

Limiting factors on the 8-16 for me will be weight and coma. If it's over 750g, and doesn't have low coma wide open, no sale. Otherwise, the Nikon 14-24mm may have met its' match.

Any idea on when the 8-16mm will be available and the cost? I would certainly consider it if the image quality is up there, which it probably will be.

The 200 f.2 sounds nice but likely an extremely high priced item (I've seen $6000 suggested) that no sensible hobbyist would take a second look at. A professional may take a different view and see that as a necessary lens.

The 10-24 being f.4 leaves the desire for a faster wide angle zoom (the 8-16 f:2.8) and will likely be very desirable for all. Unfortunately again likely to have a premium price, but if Fuji prices it competitively I believe it will be quite a winner for them.

As a hobbyist anything above $1000 is generally ruled out so I doubt I will be looking at either of them seriously. However I did feel the need for the 100-400 and love it so I could be enticed with the 8-16 if the price is not super premium.

My latest lens I really desired is the new 80 mm, but at $1200 I drug my old Canon gear out of the closet specifically for Macro work. I am sure the 80 mm is as wonderful as advertised as was the 100-400, so maybe if I hit the lottery I may see more value in the item.

It doesn't look like the 8-16 will be able to accept any filters, which is somewhat of a bummer (but not totally surprising).

A hint to Fuji. TOO BIG! don't go the Olympus route.
