Has anyone compared these 2 inks?
I already own an Epson R3000,{11 years},just tired of all the clogs
I'm seriously thinking of getting the Canon P600/800?

Any advice/help/opinions?
TNX,
Mike

Typo? P600/800 are Epson printers. They use pigment based ink. Canon's ChromaLife inks are dye based. Canon's line of pigment inks are called Lucia.

yes,I know they are Epson printers
OK,thanks for the correction.

So,did you ever compare, the 2 types of ink?
Are there any advantages/disadvantages using dye vs pigment printers?

Thanks,
Mike

If you're interested in things like permanence, fade resistance, archival qualities, etc., the place to go is Aardenburg Imaging: http://www.aardenburg-imaging.com/portfolio/inks-and-media-testing-2017/

Dye versus pigment depends on what you're doing. There's lots out there on this already. A quick Google search will turn up good basic info.

We often obsess about things that may not be that important. For example, I probably shouldn't care as much as I do about whether or not my monochrome inkjet prints will last for 100 years. I'm pretty sure I won't care, and neither will anyone else!

I have no choice but to use Epson printers in my workflow. However, if you can choose any brand, I'd pay a lot more attention to things like the cost of ink, reliability of the printer, clogging rates, ease of use (printing is a black art -- so anything that lets you print more easily may be worth a lot to you).

I am looking to get the Canon Pixma Pro 100,as I said,my Epson is 11 years old
the Pro 100 is a dye based printer,,so I assume print life is about 1/2 of an Epson?

After the rebates ,the net price works out to be $129.00{a no brainer purchase} ,until the end of the month
The R3000 is still working, but it did have clog issues a few times??,so,??

Red River Paper has a very good cost-of-ink comparison. Link.

I agree with Rob (rdeloe) regarding print/color longevity. 100 years is a long time. I am no Michelangelo, but if in 200 years, people are interested in my photos, they can hire underpaid undocumented AI robots to restore them one pixel at a time. I won't care.

And, while you are debating dye vs pigment, don't forget the paper. Paper optical brighteners is a whole other can of worms.
