As most of you know, Irma, with winds now up to 180 mph is heading our way. Saturday or Sunday appears to be about when it will get in our state's area. I am halfway down the east coast and most of the projected tracks have it to the east or west of me but you can never count on that. The stores all already jam packed and gas lines are long.

I have been down this road many times in the last 50 years and it is never any fun but this one is huge and powerful so it could be very unpleasant.

We will see and time will tell.

You have my good wishes, from the fiery state of Oregon.

Yeesh. What a summer.

I'm just north of you in Central Georgia, close enough to be concerned with what the remnants may bring us.. I have a number of friends and relatives in Florida. My prayers are with you. Right now the best case scenario would be for it to not directly hit Cuba, but to get close enough that it loses steam. It looks like the high will prevent it from turning north and out to sea.

It seems every day to track west of the last days current maps. I am checking spaghettimodels.com twice per day. The Euro models have been far more accurate thus far.

4 scenarios. Hits Miami and up the coast but a glancing blow, not perpendicular landfall which will limit surge. Landfalls in the Keys, does a lot of damage there, but dissipates over the glades. Goes west and gathers strength in the Gulf and heads for Pensacola or west a bit. Hits Puerto Rico/Cuba and gets weakened by the mountains and landfalls as a weak hurricane or tropical storm.

I live in west Houston but I was lucky enough to only suffer minor flood damage (floors are shot, three days without power). My sincerest best wishes to my Gulf Coast brothers.

Believe me when I tell you the entire state is on edge. You can feel the tension in the air...

Good luck from Canada. I owned property in St Augustine so I know the drill & worries well. FEMA may be taking a really big blow this season with a second major storm to worry about & pay for. Canada has sent a lot of help to Texas & I'd bet we'll be in Florida too because a lot of us winter there.

I think everyone in the SE is watching Irma. After the islands, Florida seems to be in the crosshairs of the storm. Do what you can to be safe. Hopefully it becomes less than it appears now and passes all the major population centers. Fingers crossed.

best wishes... the local areas are still recovering from harvey. you pray & hope it doesn't make landfall or spare highly populated areas. there aren't any residential structures that can withstand 180mph wind shears... stay safe....

This thing is a monster already. I think I heard that they have never had one grow to this strength so far out before. If Cuba doesn't take some wind out of it's sails it not going to be pretty when it gets into the gulf stream.

Good vibes going out to all within it's path.

Good Luck!

I grew up near NoLa and was gut sick at what happened with Katrina despite being 1,500 miles away.

The storms are just going to get more intense over time, so if it does miss think hard about any real estate you own.

Irma is the strongest Atlantic hurricane ever recorded.

Canons have been used to document the very rapid changes in climate today -- much more rapid than in most of Earth's history.

Almost certainly it does, but one hurricane doesn't prove it.
