Every Sunday morning my wife and I visit Abrago, a neighborhood coffee bar in the East Village run by a husband and wife team. The wife is an unbelievable baker, and the husband tends the coffee bar making wonderful coffee and cappucinos. It's an unbeatable way to start your day.

I can't do people well, so this is lovely. If American men and women would only "wear" their children, we'd be a better place.

Wonderful portrait, Steve. Love the look and smile that child has.

Thanks everyone. I emailed the photo to the mom and dad and told them I'd bring them back a print next weekend.

Great timing and composition. I find the color balance to be off though, far too cool. It also appears as though the lighting from the left of the image is quite a bit warmer than what's coming from the right. I'm not great at skintones, but I took a stab at processing the image to correct for the items mentioned above. Regardless of my comments or adjustments, this is absolutely a keeper!

Thanks SH. This is one of those situations that Kent addressed recently, and I seem to remember it was a building or a monument. There were two sources of light at play. In this case, the mom was standing by the front window with natural light coming in on her back. Her front side was illuminated by incandescent light. I spent a while trying to fix the baby's face but like you're observing I didn't do it justice. On the other hand, you did an excellent job. I played with the 3 color sliders in photoshop, but wasn't sure how to address this as the baby's face didn't have the proper adjustment points. Was there a method you used?

Steve,

Do you use PhotoShop? I use CC 2017. If you have it, I could share the file with you to see the adjustments. I've been using this forum to help me get more comfortable with Greg Benz'z Lumenzia luminosity mask product. It's very powerful, and I don't quite know how I would have made the adjustments to this image without it (though I know it's certainly possible).

WB - why I do monochrome.

Love the child's smile - looks like a really inviting place.

Great eye and timing,

Bob

But looking again there is a blue cast on her side and back - cleaned that up a bit?

Steve, that youngster is thinking.."When the time is right, it's MINE!!!!!" .
Nice job! Yeah the types of lighting confuse the color image but Bob's idea of B/W is right on!
