Common wasp stealing part of an orb web spider's kill from it's web. The spider was on a leaf at the edge of the web pretending it was not happening.

Brian,

A good find, nicely captured.

For the past week, there seems to have been an uneasonal lack of insects. The exception is honeybees and, to a lesser extent bumble bees. My resident hornet is still hunting the former.

Brian,
Nice catch. I really like participating in insect photography, except the ones that sting so you're a brave man!
Cheers,
Bill

Thanks for the comments
Bill - still not been stung by an insect I was photographing - as long as you treat them with respect you'll be fine.

Hello
Who mentioned being stung?
Many years ago on holiday in the French Pyrennes, I happened upon, some wasps on the ground, seemingly building a nest. I had my macro stuff and started to focus. I am damn near sure that one wasp seemed to signal to another, that I was to close and should be taught a lesson. The second wasp, took off and second or two later, stung me on the hand. It was not a full sting and I was able to remove the barb. A lesson was learnt.

Yes apart for honey bees, very few insects about and almost no wasps in my part of west London. The weather has been pretty variable since the start of July
