That's a nice image.
I think the Moon is a wonderful site and always fun to shoot. We are fortunate to have it there!

Hah! 71 years old, closing in on 72, and I'd never encountered the term "Gibbous Moon"... now I know. Pretty good photo; I've tried to shoot the moon a few times, both with a camera and in hearts.

Thanks David! It is fun to shoot the moon. It's even better when I can shoot it from my window Thanks to The Photographer's Ephemeris I was able to find out when it was passing my way.

Thanks junglialoh! I stacked 20 images to get the detail. This was my first time stacking. I was SHOCKED how much detail is hidden in the images! It also cleaned up any noise I had. I think the trick in getting a good moon shot is to stack.

Thanks Ernie! I found the tern on Google I hope it's the right phase. Try taking several continuous images of the moon and stack them. That's how I was able to get so much detail and it reduced noise.

Chris, my only frame of reference for stacking is taking multiple shots of the same scene, changing the focus slightly for each successive shot. Is that what you mean? Doesn't seem likely since at that distance I'd think it would appear to be in one plane; but who knows? I could be way off base with that thinking.

Hey Ernie! I left everything the same including the focus. I used live view to focus, zoom in as close as possible and manual focus. I forgot how to turn on mirror lock up on the 7D so I waited a few seconds in-between each shot. Then I followed this video...
