yes i know it is still August (31st!!) and is still mid to high 90s in the forecast here in SLC, but i am seeing some shades of green/yellow around here. I know many of my fellow FM'ers are anxious for this year's fall colors. Surely people have seen this, but if not; here is a 2017 fall forecast.

Also i edited this for some beta. Perhaps we can make a "pinned" post with resources for all areas. So far, i am posting just for the SW/CO area - as that is probably the most popular in the US (sorry other areas )

I figured we could also post location advice/questions as well in this. My work has the schedule posted through the week ending 9/17, so i gots to get on trip planning and tim off requests asap.

anyways, here is the map FORECAST

another map HERE

resources from CO state parks HERE

Feel free to add to this. I can edit this and organize this. My wife and i will be cheating and staying in a plush hotel in either Silverton or Ouray a couple of days and camping in the san juans somewhere, so i am hoping this info helps people looking for areas to shoot, as it can be overwhelming!

Great map, thanks for posting. You can get up into the Uintas now according to the map, up around Christmas meadows. Unless it is showing only the high elevations.

seen that map on another site and it looks to be off by about 2-3 weeks for Ohio, especially along the lakes

you may be right, as when i go through the weeks, it shows colorado at full peak 17th. i don't know if it takes elevation into consideration.

the weather channel map guesstimates, based on current conditions, to be 9/29 to be peak (give or take).

Thanks for sharing those maps. Based on my experience and reading, the first map you linked looks at least one week early. Maybe they're forecasting it to be an early year, but I'm not sure it's even possible for northern Vermont to peak by Sept 17.

Agreed. I lived in Montreal for 8 years and it seemed like the 1st week in Oct was the peak time for color in eastern Quebec and VT/NH.

Here in Colorado, I'm already seeing quite a few signs of early changing in the high country... a few entire trees here and there, but mostly just small sections. Most of the low-lying brush in the Vail/Eagle area is already completely red, and has been for a week or two.

I'll be in Crested Butte (mountain biking) almost non-stop from 9/21 through 10/1, so I'll do my best to post updates when I can.

Agreed about early changing in Colorado. Been spending my summer in Silverton. On Red Mtn Pass be tween Silverton and Ouray there are several good size patches already in full glory. Very early. Will keep reporting since I,m on location.

the forecast today calls for snow in the rockies above 7500 feet. we got snow here in the uintas, so i am guessing the rockies did as well.

I was looking at web cams in Aspen, CO and it appears the colors are way late this year. Is this what others have observed?

i know SLC is different than CO, BUT here the color is a little bit further behind last year. HOWEVER we are supposed to get snow in the canyons this week (a foot maybe i think by Friday), and i would imagine CO would be getting the same storms we are getting. That could speed things up real quick.
