What equipment were you using when you first got started shooting weddings? I'm thinking primarily in terms of digital (rather than those who got started with film). What were your primary focal lengths of lenses and how has that changed over the years?

I shot my first wedding with a pair of AE-1 P's. Film. Then when I could afford it upgraded to New F1's and a Hasselblad 500C. My last fim cameras were an EOS 1V and EOS3.

For digital I trialed the Canon D30 (not 30D) and then the D60. Switched to digital with the release of the 10D.

My lenses have always been the same for weddings. Standard zoom, fast 50 (equiv), short tele and either a medium tele or tele-zoom. Everything else is fluff. I've tried every lens combination there is and I'm still building my kit around the same focal lengths. The only difference is I can afford to buy the best glass available now.

I started a year ago to the date with a Canon 6D paired with a 24-70 and 70-200. Now I shoot with a pair of 5d3 with 35 1.4, 50 1.2, 85 1.4, and 135 2.0

I started on crop sensors with 17-50 f/2.8, 35 f/1.8, and 80-200 f/2.8. Also, had no idea what I was doing in many ways...but sometimes felt more creative too.

Gosh, this takes me back. I started digital with two Canon 10D bodies, a Sigma 17-70, an EF 70-200 f/4 and an EF 50 f/1.8
Now I use three 5D bodies and have, from widest to longest, EF 17-40, EF 24-105, EF 35, EF 50, EF 70-200 and EF 85.

Started with a 20D, the 85 f1.8, the 28 f1.8 and the tamron 17-50mm non IS. 430EX (?) speedlight.

First zoom... 24-70L

Tried to stay away from G.A.S. ... I remember a thread years back on what is inside your bag.
took clues from the thread.
Way before shot-kit was doing it in a newsletter/blog.

Now expanded out to FF + speedlights

First wedding? A pair of Nikon D7000s plus a Tamron 17-50/2.8 VC, Nikon 50/1.8D, Nikon 80-200/2.8D, and a pair of SB600s.

Now? A pair of Sony A6300s, Samyang 12/2, Sony APS-C 24/35/50 1.8 trio, Canon 100/2, Sigma 70-200/2.8 II (depending on the venue), and a pair of Godox TT685s. Main lenses mounted are 24 and 50.

Been through some Nikon DSLRs along the way, but never really grew attached. Finally found my place in mirrorless a few years ago. Also grew out of shooting zooms, minus the 70-200 (cheaper/lighter than a 200/2! ). Definitely helped my composition and keeps me from being lazy.

Shot my first wedding with a 20D and a Xt with a 20mm F/2.8, a Tamron 17-55, a 50 f/1.8 and a 85 f/1.8.
I think I had one Canon flash and a Vivitar 285 flash. Those were the days, I remember how painful the editing was with Canon DPP.
Few years later I went with Canon 5D x2 and the prime time L lineup, 24, 35, 50, 85 and 135.
I shot that for six years and honest produced as good of work as I do today with it. If Canon could put the 5D sensor for colors into a body with the MK III focus I wouldn't buy another model for years and years.
Lightroom was by far the biggest revelation for me.

I shot my first wedding with the Nikon D70, 18-70mm lens, and the SB800 flash.

These days I use an a7R with the 28/55 primes, and a D810 with the Sigma 24-35 f/2 and Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, with the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 Macro for detail shots. And a few Nikon and Yongnuo flashes.

My first digital wedding was with D90 and D80 bodies, 18-105 kit lens and 80-200/2.8D AFS (non VR). Kinda makes me cringe now...

For laughs, going back to film it was F3 and FE2, with 28/f2, 50/f1.4 and 105/f1.8. I still have my FE2, my favorite film body.
