The larvae of Snipeflies are mostly predators.
This was photographed in July. It has been close to the top of my list for uploading several times but has been elbowed out by what I found more interesting.
These flies walk around on leaves frequently stopping and dipping their head down to place their mouth close to the surface. Their route is somewhat circular and here a sequence shows three repeats around about 120 degrees of turn.
These flies are very tolerant of me photographing them so it is worth looking out for them in the early (temperate) summer.
