Bits n pieces on CR today say late December release for the TS-Es (late Nov. for the 85). Also some new photos, including one that shows the 50 with +/- 8deg of tilt. The 135 is still the only one with a photo indicating shift range.

So a lineup of five TS-E lenses is not enough - now we want 35mm, 70mm, and 180mm TS-E lenses to fill the gaps?

I'd like to see Canon implement some sort of software that would prevent these lenses from functioning with adapters, so that parasitic companies like Sony would have to ante up and produce their own TS-E lenses.

I am not a share holder in any camera company and with adapters these days I look to buy the camera that suits what I want and don't care who makes it. When looking at lenses I buy the ones that I want that will work for me and again, don't care who makes it.

Canon lenses adapt well to both Sony and micro four thirds so dual system users can get more out of them.

There has not been any Canon cameras that have interested me (since I sold my 7D) but if Canon lenses didn't work adapted, that means I would not have purchased-

A) 17 f4 L TS-E
B) 24 3.5 L ii TS-E
C) 135 f2 L
D) 100 f2
E) 40 2.8 STM
F) 50 1.8 ii
G) 18-55 IS ii APSC kit lens.

Some of those were second hand and some were new and there have been a couple of other older EF lenses too as well as a Sigma EF mount lens.

I still have only the 17, 100, 40 and IS ii kit lenses but will buy a 1.4x extender at some point.

Canon made a bit more money out of me than the average person they sell too.

The 85L is priced reasonably, IMO. The new TS-E lenses though are pretty painful.

Is the new 85 going focus like the 1.8 or the 1.2?

Given that it will have IS, my guess is Canon has found a way to include a separate internal group, or groups of small, light lenses to provide focus and IS. If this is the case, it will have fast focus.

The 85mm 1.4, is actually quite a good deal IMO. Consider that Sigma sells their 1.4 without IS, for $1199 retail. You're not only getting a superior lens (I'm positive that Canon's new 85mm will be sharper than the sigma) but IS too, for only $400.00 more.

I am NOT convinced this will outperform the Sigma. However, I don't need it to. I need fast AF, no CA, and decent sharpness across the frame at f/1.8.

This will probably be the first lens I pre-order but I would be very, very surprised if this outperforms the S85A. But I would love a pleasant surprise.

Yes, I'm happy that the 85 is well under $2K, which was my worry. Given it's an L and has IS, if IQ is what we got from say the 35L II I thinks it's worth the premium over the Sigma, and we don't have to worry about focus reliability. Nice that it's much lighter and smaller too.

TS-E lenses have always been expensive. Don't think I'll be adding to my 24 TS-E II anytime soon.

If that is the case, I am ready to pre-order now.

I'm happy to see the price of the new T/S lenses is more reasonable than the price of the 17mm and 24mm T/S lenses were when they came out. Must have the 50mm and 90mm!

$1599 vs. $1199 ... 33% premium. That's kinda what I expected, but am hoping for closer to 25% premium ($1499). Personally, I think @ $1599, it's too close to the 85/1.2. I think crossing that $1500 price point is something Canon might want to avoid (of course, that's release pricing vs. sales, etc.)

As to the optic itself being better than the Sigma 1.4 ... that Sigma Art has quite a bit more glass to work with (i.e. beasty), so I won't be expecting it to be a BETTER optic than the Sigma Art. Maybe it's 5% less optic than the Sigma (maybe bokeh isn't as buttery or there is a touch more CA, etc.) Art, but the IS makes it >50% more pragmatic ... and hopefully the AF will be very snappy, to boot.

Sharpness, same or better, either way will be fine for me. I figure the key difference there will be how sharp it is WO and how quickly it peaks.

The 85mm is surprisingly cheap. Due to its size I expect it to be not quite as good as the Sigma art but that is OK. If it is almost as good with good focusing a great IS, it is clearly a more practical lens to have. I see myself buying it in next 1-2 years.

The TS-Es are even more than I expected (the 50 and the 90), I am very curious how they perform on a 5Ds. I will probably still end up buying the 50 TS-E to complement my 24 and 90v1. AS for upgrading the 90mm from version 1 to L, that will be interesting since the old one is already pretty good.

the 85/1.4L has competitors while the TS-E lenses do not. Prices will drop once the newness wears off.

I'm keeping my 85mm f1.2L II as it's paid for and was cheap. The new 85 will be much, much nicer to use - guaranteed.

I'd rather aim for the 35mm f1.4L II as a second low light option - having owned two 35 Arts, an FD 35 and a 35mm f2.0 IS.

At US$1599, I'm really not expecting the 85/1.4L IS to be sharper than the Sigma.

It may, however, have better LoCA performance; or it may just be closer to Nikon's aging lens, but with IS and actual, fast, ring USM.

What I do hope that Canon focused on is the rendering. Even Sigma appears to have given up some LoCA correction to keep the rendering decent, though I feel Sony's GM probably did this best.

There's more to IQ than absolute sharpness. Look at that Nikon 58 f/1.4G, not that sharp wide open, but the lens is loved by those that use it and for portrait work it's brilliant. Given my old Sigma 85 f/1.4 EX HSM holds up pretty darn well even on the 5DsR, I'm sure this Canon will be more than sharp enough for 99% of people even wide open, and usable over a wider range of light levels than the Sigma monster.

Anybody see the price of the new macro twinlight, that's double what I paid for the MT-24EX, hopefully Yonguo or whatever they are called clones them and sells them $300.
