Hi All,

This is my first photo submission to FM. I didn't have enough lens to get much from behind the fence. I seem to prefer slower shutter speeds with panning. I think it's a fun skill set to work on. Of course C&C is totally welcome.

I like these. You seem to have figured out how to get some motion in the shots. Sonoma is a great place to shoot. All I will say and it is not a criticism...Try some shots at 1/60th....the magic doesn't really happen until you get to a 60th. At 1/60th try some shots like you have but also zoom out wider and put the bike or the car nearer the bottom of the frame with lots of great blur above and around.

Nice work.

Hi John,

Thank you very much for the feedback. I'll definitely try that slow speed some more. I've snagged a couple in the past but this time I just couldn't get to a spot where I had time to track very well prior to taking the pic. I definitely need to work on framing the shot better as well.

More good shots. I love Sonoma and I agree that there are fewer places there to set up for side pan shots than there are for more head-on shots. Drivers' left on the back side of the track through 8-8a-9 gives you some places to set up for high speed pans.

I need to make it out there for the bikes and the vintage races sometime. I only get there for IndyCar now.

Ive only shot Sonoma 1 time for Indy Car. Great place to shoot. Of course the iconic shot is over the hill at 3a. Some good advice by Stripper.

My critique is how do I know these shots are from Sonoma? What identifies the track? I like the shot at 1/20th.
